English Premier League: Massive weekend ahead – Part 1
‘King’ Kenny
It is far from an easy task to turn things around at Anfield these days, purely because of sentiment and wee bit of romanticism; well that is what you expect from a reasonable man. However, the same man should indeed criticise Kenny Dalglish for playing
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114.
Nevertheless, Dalglish has been in charge for less than a week and people are starting to raise fingers at the Liverpool legend. These were the same people who called the sacking of Roy Hodgson a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction. One wonders what bracket the current
criticism of Kenny Dalglish comes under.
Kenny could have done better than Everton as his first home game on his return to management. One thing is certain that Liverpool fans will back Dalglish, no matter what. But the question to be asked is what The Kop would want if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 finished somewhere
around mid-table with approximately 48 points which would be quite similar to that of Hodgson during his 6 months.
If that is the case, then maybe everyone could just say ‘thanks Kenny, but you can do better in the directors’ box.’ Otherwise, if things go extremely well then we all know what the fans would want. But what if Liverpool performs just above average? It would
be really interesting to see what Liverpool fans would demand then.
Coming back to the immediate task-in-hand for Kenny Dalglish, the Merseyside derby. It will be an emotional crowd on Sunday afternoon and it could be a great atmosphere if Liverpool come out all guns blazing and tear apart their cross-city rivals. All we
can do is wait and see.
The Liverpool players
This certainly is a massive weekend for those eleven men who will walk on to Anfield’s turf in a red top. Their commitment, desire and passion will be monitored very closely and if anything goes wrong, they will have to share the blame.
Roy is not there anymore, who was blamed for every single mistake a player used to make on the pitch. This is no longer the case as King Kenny is in charge now.
Apart from a few players- http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 Meireles- none of the Liverpool players have performed up to the standard expected of them. So Sunday will be a big day for many of them as they are the ones who will be under the radar
instead of the manager.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United
Tottenham’s nine-match unbeaten run ended when they were beaten away at Goodison Park. Apart from that, they have been in sensational form along with the two Manchester clubs.
It will be one cracking Sunday this time around. It is not just the Merseyside derby where two bottom half teams will come up against each other, but we also have a match between two of the most in-form teams in the league.
If Tottenham can beat Manchester United, they will hand the league leaders their first defeat of the season. They might also give themselves an outside chance to get back into the title race. There is 8-point gap between two teams with Spurs having played
a game more.
However, a win will put Spurs only 5 points behind United and strengthen their hold on the fourth Champions’ League qualifying spot.
Meanwhile, one must remember that United have been pretty ordinary on their travels in the 2010-11 season. They have won just 2 of their 9 away games and have drawn the other 7. This game has all the makings of a real classic. ‘Goals galore’ is what we expect
just like everyone else.
