English Premier League – Match Preview: Aston Villa versus Chelsea F.C
Chelsea travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa on 16th of October, 2010 in what is expected to be a tough test of the Champion’s resolve.
Chelsea will be without a host of first team players for their matchup against Aston Villa, therefore, Aston Villa have a good chance of actually nicking a result against Carlo Ancelloti’s men.
Nonetheless, if Villa do not perform to the best of their abilities against the Blues, they run every risk of suffering the same fate that the likes of West Brom, Blackpool, Stoke City and Wigan have faced this season.
Chelsea’s start to the season can be described by just one word, magnificent. After winning their third English Premier League title in the 2009-2010 season, Ancelloti’s men have been on a high tide.
Led by the impressive form of Didier Drogba alongside the Frenchman Nicolas Anelka and his compatriot Florent Malouda, Chelsea’s front three players have been the scourge of the rest of the Premier League thus far.
Chelsea opened their Premier League defence by defeating West Bromwich Albion by six goals to nil at the Hawthorns Stadium. Not only that, they went onto win against Wigan by the same score line before putting two goals past Stoke’s weak defence at the Stamford
Bridge in their third game of the season.
For their fourth match of the season, Chelsea travelled across London to face West Ham United at the Upton Park. West Ham were in dire straits back then at the start of the season, therefore, the Champions had no trouble in defeating the Hammers by three
goals to one.
After that two goal win over Avram Grant’s team, Chelsea faced Blackpool at home in another goal filled match.
The Blues netted four goals past the Seasiders in one of the most one sided matches ever seen to gain all three points from the encounter.
In their sixth match of the season, Carlo’s boys were pitted against the might of Manchester City. City were successful in nicking a narrow one goal win over the Champions as Chelsea were dealt were dealt their first league defeat of the 2010-2011 season.
Following their defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea hosted Arsenal at home and had no trouble as Alex and Didier Drogba scored one each for their club side to gain a valuable win over their local city rivals.
Alternatively, Aston Villa have recently appointed their new manager Gerard Houllier in-charge. Before Houllier took over, Kevin MacDonald was temporarily in control of the team due to Martin O’Neill’s resignation in the summer from his post as the club’s
first team manager.
Villa began their league campaign with a four goal win over West Ham but then lost by six goals to Newcastle United in their second league match of the season. Villa recovered morally and physically in their third match of the league season as they won against
Everton by only a one goal margin but they again lost in their fourth league match to an average Stoke City side at the Britannia stadium.
In their next two matches, Villa won against Wolverhampton Wanderers by two goals to one but drew against Bolton Wanderers at Villa Park. In their latest league match, Villa ended up on the losing side as Rafael Van Der Vaart gave Tottenham the win thanks
to his brilliantly taken goal following a headed knockdown by Peter Crouch inside the Villa penalty area.
Aston Villa will be relishing the fact that Chelsea might be without their crucial English duo of Frank Lampard and John Terry, but despite the absence of these two talismanic figures, Chelsea are favourites to win this match duo to their rampant form in
the 2010-2011 English Premier League thus far.
