English Premier League – Match Preview: Blackpool versus Blackburn F.C
Premier League’s inglorious boys, Blackpool take on Blackburn in what is expected to a slightly scrappy encounter. The match is scheduled to take place at Blackpool’s home stadium and the Seasiders will be the favourites to come away with at least a draw
from this encounter.
Blackpool earned their promotion to the English Premier League after finishing sixth in last season’s Championship table. After participating in the subsequent play-offs, which are annually held to decide the three promoted teams from the top six in the
Championship, Blackpool disposed of Cardiff in the penultimate match to seal their Premier League fate.
Primarily little is known about the club, who are also known as the Tangerines because of their orange and white coloured kits. Blackpool F.C hails from the town of Blackpool, which is famous for its party culture and the beaches.
By even their own standards, Blackpool under Ian Holloway have impressed. They are currently ninth in the English Premier League table, above teams like West Ham United and Liverpool. Their biggest win of the season actually came in their very first Premier
League encounter, which was against Wigan Athletic. At the DW Stadium, Blackpool totally outplayed the Latics and took home four goals to nil victory.
It was a memorable win for the Seasiders, who then went onto lose their match against Arsenal, by six goals to nil. The defeat against the Gunners brought Holloway’s team back down to earth as they were riding amongst the clouds after their first ever victory
in the opening match of the Premier League season.
In their third Premier League game, Blackpool hosted Fulham in a game which had a lot of games in it as both the teams scored two goals each to gain a point each from the match.
Blackpool pulled off another surprise win when they played Newcastle United at St. James’s Park. The Tangerines dominated Newcastle and ran out as eventual winners by two goals to nil. Nonetheless, Blackpool lost their latest English Premier League match
against Chelsea F.C at Stamford Bridge.
Despite trying their best to control the attacking guile of the English champions, Ian Holloway and his team watched on helplessly at times as the Blues won the match by four goals to nil.
On the other hand, Blackburn have had a typical start to their season which can be described as inconsistent at best. Rovers are 14th in the English Premier League at the moment and have played a total number of five matches. Out of those five
matches they have won only a single one, drawn two, and lost two matches. Their goal difference presently stands at negative one as they have conceded one more goal than they have scored.
In their first English Premier League match, Blackburn defeated Everton at the Ewood Park i.e. that home ground by a score line of one goal to nil. However, in their second match they ended up as the second best team when they were pitted against Alex McLeish’s
Birmingham City side, which defeated them at Saint Andrew’s stadium in southern England.
Blackburn also lost their third game of the season to Arsenal at Ewood Park but this match was not devoid of controversy as Sam Allardyce’s team was blamed before the match for playing overtly aggressive and physical football. Aimed at hurting other players
rather than maintain the beauty of the game by Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger.
In their latest English Premier League match, Blackburn played out a one all draw with Fulham at Ewood Park and thus they have failed to win in their last four English Premier League matches.
When Blackburn travels to Blackpool to play their sixth league match of the season, they will be out in full force to break their winless streak. However, Blackpool can be considered as strong enough to emerge with at least a point from this encounter.
