English Premier League: Match Recap - Blackburn 3-1 http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809
Just when it looked like things could not get any worse for Liverpool, the Reds were on the receiving end of yet another defeat in the English Premier League. This time, it were Blackburn at Ewood Park as Liverpool were beaten 3-1 in a one-sided affair.
The loss once again puts pressure on the club management and the job of manager Roy Hodgson looks to be on the edge.
Liverpool had won their last game against Bolton in injury time, but even before that game there were rumours that club owners were actively looking for a replacement to Hodgson.
Now, after seeing their side's dismal performance against Blackburn, Liverpool owners may be inclined on speeding up the process of hiring a new manager.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 got a consolation goal for the Reds, 9 minutes from time.
The chanting "You're getting sacked in the morning" was echoing all around when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, but same was the case at Ewood Park and the chanting there was clearly directed
towards Roy Hodgson. At one point, it looked as if all four sides of the ground had the same chant coming and it did not matter if it was coming from the home side’s fans or the travelling Liverpool faithful.
Liverpool have had a good record over the years against Rovers, and from their previous 24 matches, Reds had lost just one. However, all that counted for nothing as Liverpool came into the game in utter crisis.
They were up against one of the most vulnerable midfields in the league, but still could not impose themselves.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, the Spanish marksman who had been once called the Best Striker in the World, was once again a shadow of himself. He was on the receiving end of some harsh tackles, but still nothing too flashy and he was not at all able to express himself.
Blackburn were by far the more dominating side as soon as the match started, Steve Dunn was the first one to have a shot from edge of the area. Later, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mame-Biram-Diouf-c23302 also tried his luck from 8 yards out but Jose Reina did well to fend it off.
After the half hour mark, Rovers finally managed to make their dominance count as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 and rifled the ball into the back of the net. Liverpool looked
completely out of sorts and just 5 minutes later, it became 2-0. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sotirios-Kyrgiakos-c33831 was not up to the task as Benjani received the ball and went past the defender before smashing the volley past Reina.
The first half ended at 2-0 but Liverpool did not fare any better even after the game resumed. In the 57th minute, a tough battle was turning into a rout. Hoilett did well to beat Martin Skrtel and Johnson and thus got to the bye-line before sending
in a cross for Benjani who calmly side-footed the ball to make it 3-0. It was now evident that Liverpool had given up long ago. Gerrard got one back after 81 minutes but the match was already over long before that.
The 3-1 defeat left Liverpool in 12th place after 20 games while Rovers moved up to 9th. It now seems only a matter of time before Roy Hodgson gets the axe.
