After a goal-less first half, it was the man on loan from Benfica Rodrigo Moreno who produced a beautiful goal to get the home side ahead, but the Latics did well to hang in there and thus share the points in the end.
Wigan looked to be at war throughout the game as just 12 minutes in, they suffered the loss of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-Kirkland-c9021 had to be carried off after an ugly fall. That is why the draw in the end turned out
to be a gutsy performance from Roberto Martinez’s team.
Wigan were battered throughout the match but the fighting spirit is what kept them going. The Dutch Stam, who came to the club in summer from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233, salvaged a point 10 minutes from time.
Bolton tried hard and bombarded the Wigan goal but could not break through, and in the end had to settle for just a point, which they believed was much less than what they deserved overall.
Wigan started with Kirkland in goal as their number one keeper Ali Al-Habsi is on loan from Bolton, and according to the rules could not play against his parent club. As the match kicked off, Wigan already knew that fellow relegation candidates http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 had
taken an early lead against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, which put some added pressure on the Latics.
Kirkland looked to be in good touch as he came forward to claim a cross from Matt Taylor.
Minutes later, Elmander played in a good ball to Taylor who made a good run and played in a cross, but Antolin Alcaraz was in the way and the move faded away.
Cleverly, the man on loan from league leaders Manchester United, all of a sudden was on the floor, he was in too much pain following a pull in his hamstring and had to be taken off.
Heavy rain at the Reebok did not allow Bolton to dominate the game, and the home team failed to impose themselves.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Rodallega-c16414 was the closest it got to open the scoring for Wigan in the first half. The striker had made an excellent solo run from the midfield, but as soon as he entered the box he was hounded by 3 Bolton defenders and his shot was slashed away.
Rodallega was once again on attack and Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen had to dive full length to stop a volley from close range. Bolton had started to hog the ball but still did not create too many clear cut chances as the away side continued to keep them
out.
In the 2nd half, the Trotters had two good chances of taking the lead in the space of just 90 seconds. Taylor’s free kick was met by a strong header by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 but it was inches wide. Soon a Taylor corner from the flank was misjudged by Kirkland
but Cahill once again could not divert the ball on target.
Bolton finally opened the scoring as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mark-Davies-c24112 played a super ball to Rodrigo who had made a good run inside the box. The front man did well to steady himself and calmly slotted the ball past Kirkland to make it 1-0.
Wigan after going behind did not drop their shoulders and instead continued to fight hard. In the 80th minute, they got a just equaliser which was due to some excellent passing from the Latics.
Rodallega played a delightful ball to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Gohouri-c34175 on the flank and he wasted no time in sending in a quick cross which was met by Stam. The Dutchman side-footed the ball home to secure a well earned point for his side.
