English Premier League News: Alan Shearer guarantee’s that he won’t be Newcastle’s next manager
Newcastle United’s hopes of replacing Chris Hughton with a credible fan favourite icon have been dealt a shock as Alan Shearer has confirmed that he won’t be taking over at the Tyneside club. In his latest interview Shearer guaranteed that he won’t be taking
up the first team manager’s post at Saint James’s Park. Much has been said about Chris Hughton’s dismissal as Newcastle’s first team manager as the Irishman was told that he was no longer needed at the club by Mike Ashley, the owner of Newcastle United.
Ashley, who is a big Newcastle United fan himself, took the decision in early hours of Sunday to part ways with Hughton, a man who had guided Newcastle United from The Championship back into the English Premier League. Chris’s recent results with the club
were not favourable to say the least, the men in white and black had gone 5 games straight without a win in the Premier League. However, despite such a torrid run of form Newcastle United currently occupy the 11th place spot in the English league
standings.
Not only that, in the 2010-2011 season under Hughton, Newcastle United defeated Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and then proceeded onwards to draw against the English champions Chelsea at the Saint James’s Park. Earlier on in the season, Newcastle also thrashed
Aston Villa by six goals to nil and they also defeated their staunch rivals Sunderland by five goals to one at the Saint James’s Park.
Regardless, such high profile results were not enough for Newcastle’s ex-manager to sustain his place at the club as his employers terminated his contract. Hughton had only six months left on his deal with Newcastle United, thus Ashley took the decision
of informing Chris that his contract was going to be terminated with immediate effect. In the aftermath of Mike Ashley’s decision, a lot of Newcastle’s loyal fan base has criticized their club’s owner for taking this unnecessary decision. With the squad that
Hughton had at his disposal, the Irishman did well to get them promoted to the Premier League and then obtain good results against top four teams such as Chelsea and Arsenal.
Recently, Newcastle United’s legendary striker Alan Shearer, who now works as a football pundit after declaring retirement from football in early 2000s has come out and stated that he won’t be considering an offer from Newcastle United to take over at the
club as a manager. Alan said, "I won't be the next Newcastle manager. I can guarantee you that. I have said never say never but I can guarantee I won't be the next Newcastle manager."
Shearer previously took over at Newcastle United in the 2007-2008 season to save the team from relegation as an interim manager but he failed to save his beloved Magpies from the drop to the lower echelons of league football in England. The former England
international added, "I wonder to myself where they think Newcastle should be, if they think they should be higher than mid-table because I'm not being disrespectful to the squad but they're not going to be in the top six or seven.”
Alan Shearer also voiced his opinion over the sacking of Chris Hughton, a man who was backed by his team before the decision from Mike Ashley came in the lime light. The ex-Blackburn striker stated, "That isn't Newcastle's season. Newcastle's season this
year should be all about staying in the Premier League. At this moment in time there's no danger of them (being relegated). They'll be there because there are teams that are worse than them.”
He concluded by saying, "For me, Chris was doing a very, very fine job." People such as Martin Jol and Martin O’Neill are being touted up as possible replacements at Newcastle United but for the time being, the Tyneside club has appointed Peter Beardsley
as their temporary manager.
