English Premier League News: Ancelloti brands his Chelsea side as frightened after their latest draw
Carlo Ancelloti was visibly disappointed after his side drew one all against Everton on Saturday, to slip further down the table in terms of points. On a weekend where Arsenal won due to Nasri’s two goals at the Craven Cottage,
Wenger’s men went top of the table thanks to their fantastic performance against Fulham F.C.
Angry Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelloti labeled his side as "frightened" after their 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday. Chelsea were clearly not up to the mark in a game which only saw two goals, one from Chelsea and Everton each.
Chelsea’s only goal of the match was scored by Drogba which came in the 42nd minute of the match through a penalty kick but the star of the show was Jermaine Beckford who fired his team to a draw after equalizing for Everton just before the full
time whistle sounded at the end of the second half.
Chelsea have now only won one of their last six league games under Ancelloti and it looks as if the Italian’s job is under threat after his team have self destructed following their marvelous start to the football season in August.
Despite having a wretched pre-season, Chelsea flew into form in the first few months of the season as they bashed Wigan, West Brom and Stoke by a fair margin.
Ancelloti said, "I am disappointed and angry. Not just because of the result. We played good football in the first half and the second half was totally different. We played the long ball. We were a little bit scared. I didn't like
this. We are working to play a particular kind of football and I don't understand why we have changed it. We have to look at it and I have to understand and change it. I don't think it is a problem of concentration. Everybody knew it was a very important game
for us to move on from the difficult moment we are still in.”
He added, "We have to do better day-by-day on the training ground, in the training sessions. We have to work harder than we are doing. This is the way I know to move on in a difficult moment. The problem is on the pitch and we
have to work to resolve this. First half the spirit was good. I saw the players in focus and concentrated with good tactical discipline. But in the second half they were scared, afraid and played the long ball.”
Chelsea have also been rattled by the exit of their assistant manager, Ray Wilkins. Wilkins parted ways with the London club in un-sanctimonious manner after he was told that his contract at the club would not be renewed.
Chelsea’s manager further said on his team’s performance, "We needed to play better from the back and in the second half, and it was the wrong way to play football. I am worried yes, because we haven't won a lot of games. The second
half was totally wrong. We have to do better."
