Fulham’s talented goalkeeper David Stockdale has made a stellar start to his season, which includes a perfect penalty save against Manchester United. Stockdale made four appearances in the league before sitting out in Fulham’s fixture against Blackpool.
The youngster had to play through the pain in the match against Blackpool and was successfully able to help his side attain a 2-2 away draw.
Yet, the player has been ruled out following the match. Stockdale was extremely disappointed to hear that his England call-up was cancelled owing to injury issues. The 25-year-old upon hearing the call stated that injuries were part and parcel of the game
but to have missed out for the England call-up was just heart breaking. The player added that he was proud of being an Englishman and it was just sad to have missed out on an opportunity to represent his nation. However, Stockdale vowed to keep on working
hard and wait for his opportunity at Fulham to come.
“Obviously, Mark [Schwarzer] is our number one keeper at the moment, but when my opportunity arises, I'm going to grab it with both hands and perform to the best of his abilities. “I was bitterly disappointed to get injured against Blackpool after making
my breakthrough. I'd put together a good run of games after waiting two years for my chance and I was showing the manager, the club and the fans what I could do. Before that, people didn't know what I could do", stated the dejected 25-year-old shots stopper.
Liverpool
Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has expressed his determination to finally lift a trophy with the Reds this season. The World Cup finalist have not won a single trophy with the Reds since the player joined Liverpool in 2006, but came close in doing so on two
occasions. Kuyt was part of the team that reached the UEFA Champions league final in 2007 and also lost the premier league battle to Manchester United two seasons ago.
Kuyt’s only trophy came with his former club Utrecht when the side won the Dutch Cup. However, the attacker is now confidant that Liverpool has the depth in the squad to lift the Europa league this season. The player stated that he had the belief that Liverpool
would be finally ending their trophy drought, despite not winning a Cup for the past 4 years. The player stated that his side got very close of winning one but missed it during his time. Kuyt was extremely disappointed with his side losing the Champions league
final and finishing second in the league.
The Dutch man believed that if they can get close, they can win it as well and all they needed was to work hard and believe that they can help the club win a trophy. Dirk admitted he didn’t want to be a player who just won one cup in his life. Liverpool
seems to be in no position to win anything this season but Kuyt was convinced that everyone at Liverpool is working hard for a trophy. The 30-year-old was dejected to be out of the Carling Cup but is currently looking towards the games to come.
“We definitely want to do well in the Europa League. We as players want to change things as quickly as possible and we are working really hard together to change things. We have the quality to do well in the Premier League and Europa League and also in the
other competitions," stated the 30-year-old attacker. In his 206 appearances for Liverpool, Kuyt has managed to score 53 goals in all competitions and is considered to be one of the most hardworking attackers in the Premier league.
