The end of Owen Hargreaves?
The Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that midfielder Owen Hargreaves is set to miss the season till January owing to serious knee issues. It is not good news for the fans as well as the player himself.
Hargreaves missed 18 months of action nursing his injuries earlier, and only made a few minutes substitution in the previous season. He looked fit when he came on the field, and many expected him to play in the new season.
He also missed United’s pre-season campaign in the United States, starting in Chicago on Monday. He would be going to America, but for further treatment on his knee. Fergie told press that Hargreaves is in America to see a specialist. He also added that he has no clue as to when he will be fully fit and back in training.
Former England captain and central defender Rio Ferdinand, is also not expected to start the Tuesday game against Glasgow Rangers, owing to the injury he suffered that ruled him out of the World Cup.
He confirmed that Rio may not start the season and totally depends on how he recovers over the next few weeks. Michael Owen is also expected to miss the match as well as he is working hard to be fully fit for the remaining season. Ferguson was happy with Owen’s progress and stated that he is a regular at the gym. He would miss the Champions League bouts but will play in the Premier League. Antonio Valencia and Nani both are expected to be fit, while Anderson is expected to return in October.
Manchester United’s new Mexican boy, Javier Hernandez, already has promised a great future and Mike Phelan, the Assistant manager of the club is tipping the boy to make a huge impact.
United were quick to sign the 22 year old wonder boy before the World Cup, after his quality and talent was seen at the World Cup. He scored twice for his side in the World Cup, against heavy weights Argentina and France. He was also hailed as the fastest player in the tournament in South Africa.
Phelan stated that the club was happy with the Mexican’s performance at the World Cup. He added that for the time being, the starlet is on a rest, but he expects him to join the club in the Rangers match. He tipped the youngster to create an impact there too. He commented that he was happy for signing the player before the World Cup at such a young age and predicted the he will become an important player for his national side.
Hernandez is a third generation footballer, with father and grandfather both playing in the national side of Mexico. Hernandez has scored 21 times in 28 appearances for his club last season, which caught the attention of the English giants. Phelan praised the Mexican’s athletic ability and pace, and stated that he has full capability of becoming the next legend in the world of football.
Hernandez, son of Javier Hernandez who played for Mexico in the 1986 World Cup, came to United's attention after scoring 29 goals in a total of 79 games.
Phelan added in the press releases, “He is young, athletic and as keen as mustard. He will be a good addition.”
