English Premier League: Players with something to prove in this coming season
Wayne Rooney was arguably one of the best players in the world going into the World Cup. During the terrible tournament that England had, Rooney appeared to be only a shadow of his former self. He didn’t score, showed no pace, no technique, and as many experts would say, Rooney was utterly and completely useless during South Africa 2010. He will be looking to silence his critics and prove to everyone that he is just as good as everyone assumes him to be. Rooney will definitely be lighting up the English Premier League next season.
Thomas Hitzlsperger is another player with a lot to prove. He has been one of the most underrated players throughout his career. He recently was let off for free by Lazio because the clubs fans couldn’t connect with him. Thomas was brought in by Avram Grant at West Ham and he will be looking to prove to everyone that he is just as good as anyone else outer there. He has previously played with Aston Villa in the Premier League which is why he won’t have much difficulty in adapting to the English style of play.
David Silva is one of the biggest big money transfers to take place in the history of the Premier League. Manchester City bought the player for a fee of twenty five million pounds. He will firstly need to put in performances that would prove to everyone that he is worth the money. Silva just won the World Cup with Spain and will be looking to take some of that success with him into the Premier League and help Manchester City as much as he can. It would be interesting to see Silva introduce his flair and trickery down the wing to the English game however he still needs to prove himself to the Manchester City fans and has a lot of hype to live up to.
Robert Green if anything is a decent goal keeper. He has just had one of the worst possible World Cups with England and will be looking to recover from the nightmare of a tournament that he had. He is currently employed by West Ham United who will be hoping that the keeper recovers from his bad form in hopes for the team to launch a successful campaign in the Premier League. Green will also be looking to prove that he isn’t half as bad as everyone is assuming him to be.
Fernando Torres has gone through a terrible World Cup. He used to score goals for fun but he seems to have lost something along the way. Fans all across the globe have started to judge his credibility and are now left to wonder if he is even half as good as everyone thought he was. It is unclear what team Torres will be playing for next season but no matter where he does end up, he will need to prove to everyone that he is a world class striker. Otherwise, he would just be like any other player, who has constantly been overhyped and over rated.
