English Premier League Predictions: Match Week 18 – Part 3
As usual part 3 brings in some real top class matches and this weekend is no different. It doesn’t get any bigger than Chelsea versus Manchester United.
We start off our predictions in part 3 with another top-4 contender, Tottenham, who pay a visit to an impressive Blackpool side.
Blackpool versus Tottenham Hotspur
This one promises to be an enthralling affair. These two teams just love to play attacking football and we are bound to see goals in this game. Blackpool has been on a decent run of late with 2 wins and as many draws in their last four matches, however,
Tottenham too, have been on a roll and are unbeaten in their last 6.
If you fancied going to game which guarantee’s entertainment and value for money, then you should look no further than this one.
Considering that both teams will give each other plenty of chances, it is expected that the quality of Tottenham will prevail. Spurs also have the luxury to bring in top quality Internationals from the bench to change the game, if required to.
Ian Holloway has a strong unit who are real fighters and this is one trait that can work in favour of the Seasiders. I would gamble here and go for a Blackpool win.
Prediction: 2-1
Chelsea versus Manchester United
Unbeaten all season, three wins on the trot (including Arsenal), top of the league and their opponents in utter shambles, you got to back Manchester United in this one. Chelsea, for all their superiority at the start of the season have gone 5 games without
a win and have picked up only 3 points during this period.
Manchester United were a bit cagey at the start of the season, but have started to play more like we are used to see them playing. They looked lively and played like a unit against the Gunners and another performance like that can get them all three points.
United are 3 points ahead of Chelsea with a game in hand. A win could be priceless, as it would take United 6 points clear of Chelsea and a game in hand – which is against Blackpool and a potential 9 points gap.
However, Sir Alex would happily settle for a draw at this stage and with Carlo Ancelotti’s men hardly playing brilliantly, it should not be as difficult for United, as it sounds.
Frank Lampard might return to the starting line up and could provide Chelsea with that cutting edge they have been desperately lacking.
A Chelsea win is not what I expect, even though it would come as no surprise as they have the required quality to beat any team on their day. This one seems to have a draw written all over it.
Prediction: 1-1
Manchester City versus Everton
City are third in the table with 2 points off the top, a point behind Arsenal and a point ahead of champions, Chelsea. It simply shows that City are real title contenders and this is the kind of game they need to win to prove it.
One can feel pity for Roberto Mancini, as he has a new off-field problem each week to deal with. And it doesn’t get any bigger when your best player and skipper comes out and says he wants to leave.
However, unlike Wayne Rooney’s saga, we know that if Tevez plays (which is highly likely), he will give his 100%.
Everton’s problem at the moment is that they simply cannot score. Tim Cahill is their only genuine goal threat. With Saha, Yakubu, Anichebe and Beckford all forgetting where the goal is, we know what David Moyes will be looking for come January transfer
window.
City have won three of their last four games and I can’t see Everton scoring at Eastlands. So, it’s a straight forward decision for me i.e. Manchester City win.
Prediction: 2-0
