English Premier League - Preview: 07-05-2011 (Part 1)
Both ends of the Premier League table are in the melting pot with one game being the deciding factor between failure and grandeur, between the great escape and the humiliating drop.
This weekend in the Premier League will potentially decide the destination of the Premier League trophy, as Manchester United take on Chelsea at Old Trafford in a winner-take-all encounter, but there is also a small matter of Premier League survival at the other end of the table.
A few weeks ago it looked like this meeting between Manchester United and Chelsea will be no more than a formality, but Chelsea have remarkably cut down a 16-point lead at the top of the table and are now breathing right down Manchester United’s neck.
At the bottom of the table, the situation is really desperate for West Ham United who are 3 points from safety. With just three games left to play, anything less than a win tonight will surely extinguish any lingering hopes of survival for them.
Blackpool and Wigan also have tricky away fixtures to deal with at the weekend, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 will take on West Brom in the Black Country Derby.
Also in action at the weekend will be Arsenal, who play Stoke City, while Manchester City face a trip to Goodisson Park, and Newcastle United take on Birmingham.
Manchester United's stunning loss against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 more than a fighting chance of beating United to the title.
The fight for survival at the foot of the table is equally intriguing, as all the bottom 6 teams can still be relegated. West Ham United are in dire straits as they prepare to take on Blackburn Rovers at Upton Park tonight.
West Ham manager, Avram Grant will be desperate for a win tonight against a side whose safety is still not guaranteed, but Rovers are still sitting at the 16th spot in the league three points clear of the drop zone.
Blackpool also have it all to do in their fixture tonight, however, the problem is that they are facing a Tottenham side that is vying to qualify for the UEFA Champions league next season. After a promising start to the season, Blackpool’s form has been awry off late and now they findthemselves in the midst of a relegation dogfight. Blackpool currently sit just outside the bottom three, but only courtesy of their goal difference. A loss against Spurs tonight may put them back in the danger zone.
