English Premier League Preview: Arsenal versus Tottenham Hotspurs
The North London derby would be played on Saturday at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal is enjoying a good run of form in recent weeks, as the Gunners sit on second position in the Premier League table. Tottenham are also enjoying their football
performances under their manager Harry Redknapp, as they broke into top four last season. However, with the additional matches under their belt, due to Champions League, Spurs have only managed a 7th spot on the table, so far this season.
In the recent years in English Premier League, Arsenal has dominated their London rivals. In April, last season, Tottenham won their fixture against the Gunners after more than a decade of failure. However, last time Tottenham won a match
away to Arsenal was in 1993. So, history would not be on the side of Spurs, who have always found a difficult trip away to their North London neighbours.
This match would be interesting in one aspect especially. On one hand, Arsenal is being troubled by the home form this season. The Gunners have lost two of their home matches, in the last five. The away form, however, has been better,
as the Gunners have lost one and drawn another away from home, in the last five fixtures. On the other hand, Spurs have not been able to perform well away from home. Tottenham has won only a single match, from their last five away fixtures, and they have lost
three and drawn another. The away form has been daunting for Spurs, and combined with their away form at Emirates Stadium, Spurs would have a difficult task to accomplish.
Before the start of the season, Tottenham was participating in the Emirates Cup as well. It was not a great experience for the Spurs, as they lost two matches against recently promoted sides, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion.
Therefore, the Emirates Stadium has been intimidating for the Spurs, who have found it genuinely hard to play in the fortress of their biggest rivals.
Harry Redknapp would be happy as he lacks the problems other clubs ar efaing n the league therefore his team should be hoping for a good performance. Gareth Bale would be an important man for Spurs, as the midfielder is playing the best
football of his life. Bale scored a hat-trick against Inter Milan, in the Champions League, and he has been doing well ever since. However, the main player for Spurs in the Premier League is Rafael van der Vaart, who joined the London side from Real Madrid.
The Dutch midfielder has been playing the role of a front man, behind the lone striker played by Harry. Against Arsenal, Redknapp would go for a lone striker once again, either Peter Crouch or Roman Pavlyuchenko, which would put a lot of responsibility on
the shoulders of Van der Vaart.
Arsene Wenger is also quite happy at the moment, as most of his main players have come back from early season injury problems. Jack Wilshere would be available, despite missing his match for England. Tomas Rosicky and Andrei Arshavin are
doubtful because of injury, but they might join after a late test. The three players who would surely miss their chance are Thomas Vermaelen, Manuel Almunia and Abou Diaby. Robin Van Persie might be included in the starting XI, after playing for Netherlands
in the midweek. Nicholas Bendtner might miss once again, after crossing paths with his manager, Arsene Wenger.
The key players for Arsenal would be Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh. Both these players are currently the best players for Gunners, as they have scored important goals and made important plays. For Tottenham, apart from Van der Vaart
and Barry, the main job would lie on the shoulders of William Gallas. A former defender from Arsenal knows the stadium very well, as well as the team and their tactics. So, he would play the major role in keeping his defence tight in front of a strong Arsenal
attack.
The real battle would be won in the midfield, with both teams having strong players in that position. However, Wenger might outplay his opponent, Redknapp, in tomorrow’s fixture. His key players and his superior knowledge of the game would
help him in achieving another victory against his London rivals.
