English Premier League - Preview: Liverpool versus Wolverhampton Wanderers
All eyes will be on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 on November 17th at the Wembley
Stadium, an international friendly game which England subsequently lost.
The midfielder has been unable to play for the Reds since, nursing a grade two hamstring tear. The skipper was reported to have recovered a few weeks back but has been unable to star for his Anfield based side due to the miserable weather conditions in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
Liverpool have missed their previous two matches against Fulham and Blackpool due to the dire freezing conditions and the Reds will be anxious to get back into action against bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves lost their Boxing Day match against Wigan, a team which is also wallowing in the relegation zone. The manager Mick McCarthy was at a loss for words concerning his side’s pitiful defending and the team will desperately be looking for points when playing
the Reds in tonight’s fixture at Anfield. The last time Wolves secured a victory over the Reds was around 27 years ago. At that time, it was Steve Mardenborough who scored in January 1984 and the goal proved to be the striker’s only goal concerning the time
he spent in the Wolves' squad.
In this campaign, Liverpool have played seventeen games, one less than Wolves have. Roy Hodgson’s men have scored 22 points, compared to Wolves’ 15. The Reds have won two more games than McCarthy’s side’s four this season, although the Anfield outfit have
drawn four compared to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952’ three. McCarthy’s men have lost eleven games this season, compared to Hodgson’s squad’s seven. The Wolves have scored 19 goals and conceded 32, whereas Liverpool have scored 21 and conceded one more this season.
The two teams have clashed 90 times in Premier League fixtures, with the Reds winning 44 matches. Wolves have secured victory in 29 games in total. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 have been the winners in the previous 13 fixtures out of 14 played at Anfield. In the last 11 matches,
they have managed to keep nine clean sheets. The Wolves face a formidable task against the Reds, as they have not managed to score against their opponents of the night in 270 minutes of Premier League games and Hodgson’s team have not let in a goal in 309
minutes of Premier League matches played on their home turf.
The Wolves' side will be looking for inspiration in the Reds having Roy Hodgson as the manager, as the Liverpool boss has not been able to secure a victory over the Molineux outfit. When in charge of Fulham, he secured a draw against Wolves in April at Craven
Cottage and previously lost against his opponents of the night in September 2009.
The Reds must improve their form if they are looking for a Champions League spot, as they are currently five points lower than they were in their last campaign, when they ended the season in the seventh position in the league table. Wolves must improve their
away form in the league, as they are without a win in their previous 11 matches away from Molineux.
Having last won a Premier League match in March, McCarthy’s team currently are the squad with the most pitiful away statistics in this season. They have managed to secure only one point in their away matches, which was against Everton early on in the season.
The 32 goals conceded by Wolves this season are paralleled only by West Ham, a team which is also wallowing in relegation danger.
Roy Hodgson will welcome back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Mancienne-c25332 and Karl
Henry are also unavailable due to knee problems.
