English Premier League Preview: West Ham United vs Newcastle United
West Ham United host Newcastle United in the late kickoff at Upton Park, in the English Premier League on Saturday. The bottom-most West Ham can bring themselves out of the relegation zone if they can record a win at their home
ground.
Three points on Saturday for The Hammers will enable them leapfrog their opponents, Newcastle United. The Hammers are currently two points adrift of Newcastle, and have only managed to score six points off their eight Premier League
matches. Goals have been hard to come by for the East London club as they have only managed to score six times this season.
Newcastle however, have managed to score twelve goals in as many matches, but due to a streak of poor results have found themselves languishing in 16th place. Manager Chris Hughton will be looking for a good performance
from ace striker Andrew Carroll. The striker has been in the news after appearing in court on accusations of hitting is ex-girlfriend.
Last season’s Football League Championship winners are without a win for over a month in the Premier League and have not been able to record a win against The Hammers in their last three attempts.
Avram Grant’s team is unbeaten in the last four league matches. This can be seen as a significant improvement in form for West Ham United, considering the fact that they were unable to register a single point in their first four
matches this season.
The Hammers will be depending on their inspirational captain Scott Parker. The former Chelsea midfielder has always played a pivotal role in the West Ham midfield by virtue of his accurate passing and resolute tackling. Defender
Matthew Upson will be hoping for return to 1st team action after recovering to full fitness from a neck injury.
Newcastle united will be hoping to improve their away form in the league this season. Their only away victory was a narrow 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park in September. Newcastle United will be boosted by the return of their
skipper Kevin Nolan. The midfielder missed the last match due to an ankle problem.
A win over West Ham on Saturday will take Newcastle’s total number of victories in the Premier League to 250; a milestone achieved only by six other clubs.
