English Premier League Recap: Part 1 – the weekend's winners
Every weekend, Premier League stars take to the field and try to help their respective teams come out on top at the end of ninety minutes. However, there can only be one winner in every match and here is a look at the winners from
this past weekend.
Chelsea
Many people claim that Chelsea's first test towards launching a successful bid to retain their crown begins next weekend. However, those people are either delusional or are just playing dumb to the fact that Chelsea are already
looking like the strongest side in the league. The team has been scoring goals for fun, while barely letting any get past them. That they have done so with injuries to a few key players only bears testament to their strengths. If they come away with three
points from Eastlands next weekend, then they’re surely on their way to back-to-back league titles.
Florent Malouda
The French winger scored the only goal for the French team in a more then disappointing World Cup. If that wasn't indication enough, then the fact that Malouda has scored his last twelve goals in matches in which Chelsea have gone
on to score four or more goals is clear indication that the former Lyon player has finally adapted to life in Chelsea and is now playing at best.
Sunderland
Sunderland are a team that are well known for two reason; the first being Darren Bent, the second being Rory Delap's long throw-ins. However in the last five games that the club has played, they have managed to score a goal in
the last ten minutes of those games.
Sunderland scored an equalizing goal in the eighty eight minute against Birmingham; managed to score an eighty first minute match winning goal against West Brom; scored a stoppage time penalty against Manchester City; managed an
eighty seventh minute equalizer against Wigan; and now they managed an astounding ninety fifth minute match leveling goal against Arsenal this past weekend.
Sunderland have successfully taken the term ‘leaving the game late’ to a whole new level and need to be given credit where it is due.
When the club was promoted to the English top flight a couple of seasons ago, everyone assumed that they would be a laughing stock. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore as Sunderland have become a mainstay of the English
top flight.
