English Premier League Recap: Part 2 – the weekend's winners

Continued from part 1, here are the rest of the weekend’s winners from the Barclays English Premier League
Dimitar Berbatov
Going into the new Premier League season, Berbatov was considered a mercurial striker who couldn’t get going at Old Trafford. The Bulgarian assassin had fallen from grace ever since he left Tottenham to join Manchester United,
a transfer in which he became Man Utd’s most expensive player ever. United on the other hand were having their own problems up front.
Wayne Rooney, the team’s superstar and source of most of their goals, had hit a slump in form and in his personal life. His on-field displays as a result suffered and he seemed not even a quarter of the player he was last season.
However, cometh the hour and cometh the man; Berbatov saw the opportunity to reclaim the top spot as being one of the best strikers in the league and grabbed it with both hands. The forward already had a couple of goals to his
name going into the weekend's matches, but against Liverpool Berbatov made his mark at Old Trafford once and for all. Berbatov opened the scoring for United, and then scored what was quite possibly one of the best goals the league had ever seen. However, shambolic
defending from Man Utd let Liverpool in and Berbatov then went on a one-man mission to reclaim the lead for United. He eventually succeeded with a towering header over Jamie Carragher and propelled United into the lead once again – a lead they then managed
to hold onto.
Carlos Tevez
Carlos Tevez seemed to not have a very good start to the season; however a couple of games in and the Argentine forward looks back to his level best. The player was the inspiration behind Manchester City's win this past weekend
over Wigan. The forward has scored twenty four goals in his last twenty eight Premier League games and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. The tenacious attacker had recently considered retiring from all forms of football, but Manchester City will be glad
that the player didn't. Despite the team bringing in numerous new players, it is safe to say that the Argentine forward is the heart and soul of the Manchester City team.

Darren Bent
Darren Bent was once in contention for a role in the English national team but a poor run domestically in the league coupled with less then impressive shows with the national side left numerous people questioning his ability.
Bent though has managed to take this criticism positively and has upped his game this season to a whole new level. The forward has scored four goals in five games so far this season and now has twenty seven goals in forty three
games for Sunderland. What sets Bent apart from the rest of the team is his determination and will to go on and look for a goal no matter what the scoreboard or the clock says. This weekend it was Bent's presence in the Arsenal 18-yard box that led to Sunderland
salvaging a point from the game in the last minute of stoppage time.
