English Premier League: Roy Hodgson believes Torres and Reina will stay while Carrick gets ready to host Spurs
Roy Hodgson has once again reiterated the club’s belief that both the players will not hurt Liverpool by moving away from the Merseyside club. Spanish national team stars, Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina are linked to several big name
European clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United but as far as Roy is concerned, both the footballers are going nowhere.
Hodgson spoke at length about his players, “Torres and Reina are training very well and if they are unhappy and wanting to get away they are making a d**n good job of disguising it. They are great favorites here and I can't imagine
for one minute they would insult Liverpool fans in any way by suggesting, "We are unhappy, and we are only here for the good times. Players have to recognize their responsibilities when playing for Liverpool. Both of them I'm sure are as committed as I am
to getting us high up the table. They are not the type of characters who would kick off halfway through a season but, yes, the takeover provides the stability to remove any fears over their positions."
Similar thoughts were echoed by the club’s new owners who told Liverpool’s official website, "We have recently read stories about our intentions for the forthcoming January transfer window and have a sense of humor about this type
of inevitable speculation. As everyone knows we are new to English football, but not to sport, and we are studying all options. Opportunities and value will drive spending in January and in the future. Our clear focus from day one of our ownership has been
- and will be - to improve the club and focus on what it will take to put Liverpool FC consistently in a position to challenge for trophies. We intend to build this club the right way. Stories about our top players leaving are destructive and unwarranted but
we realize that this kind of speculation is also common. We intend to build on the strength of the current squad, not undermine it. And I can reassure our supporters that we have no intention of allowing the team to be weakened going forward."
On the other hand, Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United gear up to face Tottenham. Michael has been witnessing a lack of first team action at United but he did not shy away from voicing his thoughts about his team’s upcoming match
against Spurs. The English national team midfielder spoke to Manchester United’s official website about United’s record against Spurs. It has been 21 years since the last time Spurs came to Old Trafford and won a match. Carrick elaborated on the above stated
fact as he said, "Records like that won't affect the game. If we've had a bad time somewhere, we go into it as a fresh game. It's all new. We need to be on our guard because it's a big test. Tottenham are playing well and have had some great results. They've
got such a strong squad that it's going to be a challenge, but we rise to challenges. Hopefully we do that again."
Speaking about his club’s start to the new football season in Europe, Carrick expressed, “We need to focus on putting a good run together. But you can't look too far ahead and start planning how your run will pan out. We've got a
huge game against Spurs and we're focused on that first, but around the camp the atmosphere is bubbly and the lads are happy." Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson also spoke about Edwin Van Der Sar. United’s goalkeeper celebrated his 40th
birthday this week, Ferguson was appreciative of the veteran goalkeeper as he informed, "Absolutely brilliant, incredible, he has gone on because he has prepared his whole life to being a top player. His preparation, training, standard of life - everything
has been geared to staying in the game as long as he has. We haven't spoken about it [the future] but I think he is enjoying football at the moment and let him continue."
