English Premier League: Roy Hodgson content with the new “Leadership group” for Liverpool (Part 1)
Liverpool’s manager, Roy Hodgson has welcomed the appointment of Liverpool’s new director of football Damien Comolli and his strategy for a new leadership group program as far as the Reds ambitions for capturing more market areas in Asia and other regions
of the world go.
Liverpool were recently embroiled in a big take over which had to pass through court checks and injunctions to go through eventually. NESV, New England Sporting Venture have now taken over the Merseyside club and are implementing new long term changes to
allow the Reds to compete against the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Damien Comolli was formerly at Tottenham as a sporting director before making his move to St. Etienne in France. The experienced campaigner has been recruited by Liverpool’s new owners to oversee the club’s scouting and transfer department. Hodgson spoke
about Damien’s arrival as he said, “I feel very good about it. It is something the owners were very keen to put in place; it is a strategy which I think makes sense, especially for our club at this moment in time because we are in a period of transition with
new owners. They want a management structure in place which they can identify with, from American or European models and not necessarily an archetypal, if somewhat outdated, English model.”
Adding to his remarks, the ex-Fulham manager went onto say, "The days of the dictator-type English manager have long since passed when everything went through one man and no one dared even buy a paper clip without that person's approval.
He added, “There are people who dip into the roles which Damien will take over but I think it is important we have someone who will co-ordinate things in that area. He will certainly take a lot of the minor things that you have to deal with, allowing me
to concentrate on the team management and he will help us bring the team forward.”
