English Premier League: Scholes might play till 2012

Manchester United’s outstanding midfielder, Paul Scholes has signaled his intent to carry on playing if his body allows him to. Scholes was a part of the class of 94, which included the likes of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Philip Neville, Gary Neville and Nicky Butt.
This group of United’s academy products allowed United to win back to back premier league titles during the 1990s as well as during early 2000s. Some of Paul Scholes’s fellow graduates left the club in the mid 2000s, namely David Beckham, Philip Neville and Nicky Butt but the likes of Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville still remain an important part of the Manchester United family.
Scholes is widely regarded by many as the best midfielder of his generation, despite his failure to win anything with the English national team. Scholes has won nine premier league titles, three F.A Cups, two UEFA Champions Leagues and two Carling Cups.
He has also been included in the Premier League’s team of the decade which was released in the year 2002. He has additionally won various personal accolades such as the award for Premier League’s player of the month. Paul Scholes also scored Manchester United’s winning goal against Barcelona, when both of these European giants met in the semi-finals of the 2007-2008 UEFA Champions League.
Earlier on in his career, Paul Scholes was primarily seen as a goal scoring midfielder by his peers and his manager but as his career has moved on, his manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, has moved him into a playmakers position where Paul Scholes seldom gets a chance to score goals for his club.
Scholes appeared a total of 38 times in all competitions for United in the 2009-2010 season, he scored 7 goals during those appearances. His best season in terms of scoring goals for Manchester United, was the 2002-2003 season during which Paul scored 20 goals in 52 appearances for the club.
Scholes is currently part of United’s pre-season tour to U.S.A. In his interview to Manchester United’s official website, Scholes stated that he does not know right now when he is going to retire. Scholes is currently under contract with United till the year 2011. Paul Scholes said that he will take every game as it comes.
He added that he is feeling fine at the moment and that he is doing the job that the Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has asked him to do. He further said that he hopes that the coming season will be a good one for him personally as well as for the club and stated that he will take a look at his contract’s situation after the next season ends.
Commenting on United’s pre-season, Scholes told Manutd.com that pre-season is a busy time for the club because a lot of training is usually taking place in hot conditions. He also went onto say that the training will hopefully help the squad reach their full fitness potential before the next season gets under way.
Scholes also expressed his desire to win more trophies next season with United and also said that he hopes United have a better luck in the upcoming campaign as far as injuries within the squad are concerned.
