English Premier League – Second Half Report: Tottenham versus Newcastle United (Part 4)
In the 75th minute of the match, Tottenham Hotspur once again attacked and this time, Modric played in Aaron Lennon. The winger tried to return the pass to Modric but Coloccini was in the way. Modric appealed for a hand ball on Coloccini but the
referee ruled against the protests as the play carried forward. In the 76th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 was once again played in by Jermaine Jenas. The winger was in acres of space inside the Newcastle United penalty area but his final finish just missed
the far post by a whisker’s width as the score-line remained stagnant at 1-0 to the home side.
In the 79th minute of the match, Newcastle United made an attacking substitution as Peter Lovenkrands came on for Tiote. The striker replaced the midfielder on the field for the Magpies as Alan Padrew’s side went for an all out win at the White
Hart Lane. After 80th minute onwards, Tottenham adopted a more defensive mindset as they invited pressure onto themselves.
However in the 81st minute, Tottenham attacked as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 and Lennon in support alongside Modric but the Welsh winger was rich in confidence as he tried his own luck on goal from a narrow
angle. The shot was so powerfully struck by Bale that it whizzed past Tim Krul into the far corner of the net as Tottenham Hotspur added another one into their lead.
In the 82nd minute, Gomez was tackled by Andy Carroll. The aerial challenge was a late one by the striker as the referee spotted the foul and booked Carroll for his non-sportsman like behaviour. It was a harsh booking on the referee’s part but
Carroll’s attitude did nothing to help his cause as well as Tottenham maintained their two goal lead.
After Tottenham’s second goal, Newcastle United looked dejected and demoralized. Despite having the numerical superiority over their opponents, the Magpies were just too blunt in attack and also quite lacklustre in defence. In the 88th minute,
Newcastle were again penalized by the referee as Routledge fouled http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jenas-c18362. Lennon took the free kick as he played it short to Gareth Bale. The winger played it back to Lennon who forced a corner kick out of James Perch as Tottenham kept Newcastle camped
within their half of the field.
The corner kick was taken short by Modric who lobbed it towards Lennon. The Englishman tried to play in Peter Crouch but Taylor was on hand to clear the ball away for Newcastle United. In the 91st minute of the match, Modric was once again involved
in the build-up play as he played in Jenas. The midfielder surged up field and tried to curl the ball inside the Newcastle United goal.
For a moment, it looked as if Jenas would be successful in his attempt but then the ball went out of play as the score-line remained at 2-0 to the home side. The match thus eventually came to an end as Tottenham ran out as final winners by two goals to nil.
The win propelled the London club above http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 into the 4th place spot in the English Premier League table as the Blues lost on Monday against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
