English Premier League – Shawcross claims Wenger blasts to be weird
Stoke City's defender Ryan Shawcross has accused Arsene Wenger of having some sort of a personal grudge or vendetta against the player. This came after the Arsenal manager went on to further criticize the player this season.
This past February Arsene Wenger let loose a whole mountain of accusations and claims targeted at the center back, after the player was sent off for a tackle which resulted in Arsenal's midfield prospect Aaron Ramsey breaking his leg.
After last month's match between Tottenham and Stoke the French manager claimed that he felt that both, Shawcross and Robert Huth had repeatedly targeted Tottenham's goalkeeper, as they continuously fouled Heurelho Gomes.
The twenty two year old defender seems to have finally had enough of the manager and was reported saying the following:
"He's obviously got something against me. It's just weird," he said in the Sentinel. "He seems to have a problem with Stoke, our manager and certain players. Criticism doesn't bother me, unless it's a false accusation like this one.
"It's just disappointing he came out and said something that wasn't needed. He could have said there was a problem week-in, week-out in the Premier League, but he shouldn't have named individuals."
Arsene Wenger is one of the most professional managers out there, who has however in the past managed to get himself involved in a controversy or two. He was previously infamous for refusing to shake hands with an opposition manager, as he didn't like the tactics that the team had deployed, against Arsenal. He is also a common visitor to the fourth official regarding almost every call that he is not pleased with. However Wenger is justified in doing so, because he has years of experience to back him up and he clearly acts out of concern for his team and players.
Shawcross on the other hand, is an upcoming defender, who is still to make a name for himself on a larger scale. His targeting of a more renowned person, does nothing more than show the players immaturity and lack or composure.
If Wenger has gone ahead and targeted the player repeatedly it is the managers point of view, a point of view that everyone is entitled to have, the manager could go on and say whatever he wished to about the player and there is nothing that Shawcross would be able to do about it.
The defender however possibly is regretting his horrific tackle that saw Ramsey potentially loose his professional career. He is quite possibly acting out this way, in hopes of winning some sympathy from the fans who tune in on a daily basis to view the greatest game of all time. However trying to find sympathy by targeting the manager of a player, whom the defender injured, is quite possibly one of the more bizarre ways to go about things. Not only will the defender not get any sympathy from all of this, it will only result in the players personal image going to the dogs.
The defender clearly has no idea what he is getting himself into and should resort for some professional help when it comes to the media. Playing mind games with a manager of Wenger's caliber is something that is best left for other managers and not players. The smart thing on the defenders behalf would be to try and fix the mistake he has made before he finds himself spiraling down, a tunnel that has no end and will only end once the players career is down the drain.
