English Premier League: Sir Alex Ferguson rules out retirement
The long standing Manchester United has ruled out retiring anytime soon in an interview he gave in Qatar, as the knighted Scotsman said that it was a matter of a young man to decide such things, implying that he himself, was just too old
for retirement.
Ferguson has been in charge at Manchester United since he took over in November, 1986. Since then, Manchester United have gone on to become one of the biggest names in world football as under his guidance the team has won numerous European
and domestic honours. Ferguson has also nourished players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney.
When the veteran manager was asked about his retirement plans he said, "Retirement is for young people. I'm too old to retire. I would have nothing to do. As long as my health is good I will carry on. My family will make this decision."
Sir Alex went onto explain how he has had to change himself over the years in football management. Early on in his career, Ferguson was renowned for having a bad temper which get the better of him more often than not, as the time has rolled
on, Manchester United’s manager has had to keep a lid on his anger.
Fergie as Ferguson is more affectionately known said to the media, "I've mellowed a great deal. The world has changed and so have players' attitudes. I'm dealing with more fragile human beings than I used to be. They are cocooned by modern
parents, agents, even their own image at times. They need to be seen with their tattoos and earrings. It's a different world for me so I have had to adapt. There is nothing wrong with losing your temper if it's for the right reasons. But I never leave it until
the next day. I don't believe in that."
Fergie also spoke about the whole Wayne Rooney saga which threatened to de-rail Manchester United’s season in late October, as the English national striker had come out and questioned the club’s ability to match the big spenders in football.
Rooney had at first refused to sign a new contract at United but then took a u-turn on his decision and signed a five year contract with the Red Devils.
Ferguson said, "You don't necessarily have to heed advice after listening to it. Some young people take bad advice. He has an agent who is not the most popular man in the world and he obviously sold it to Wayne to ask away. The boy rushed
in. But the minute he heard the response of the public and our supporters, he changed his mind, he knew he'd made a mistake. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you recognize it. He immediately apologized and agreed a new contract within a couple of
hours."
Rooney might return to action for Manchester United against Wigan Athletic on the upcoming weekend in their next English Premier League matchup. Ferguson might start the star striker as reports suggest that Wayne has fully recovered from
his ankle injury which had plagued him since March, 2010.
