English Premier League: Smalling praises fellow defenders at Manchester United
Smalling has hailed his new team mates and thanked them for helping him settle in with Manchester United. Chris Smalling, who plays as a center back joined Manchester United after the 2009-2010 season ended. Smalling’s transfer fee for his switch to United from his previous club Fulham, amounted to around 10 million pounds.
Chris is just twenty year old right now and the U-21 English international is currently on tour with his new team mates at Manchester United. United are currently on tour in the U.S.A and are participating in rigorous training methods. The aim of these training sessions is to help players at the club with regaining their fitness levels before the new season starts off.
Manchester United play their first league game against Newcastle United on the 14th of August, 2010. However, before that game, United also played in the Community shield match against Chelsea on the 8th of August, 2010.
Smalling commented on United’s pre-season tour in U.S.A, saying that the tour has been an enjoyable experience for him so far. He also expressed his happiness at meeting everyone at Manchester United’s personal training group called “Carrington”, back in England before the team departed for the pre-seasonal tour.
Chris also said that he has been spending a lot of time with Wesley Brown and Jonathan Evans, both of whom play as defenders for Manchester United. Smalling is bound to benefit from Sir Alex Ferguson’s guidance, who has always built his teams around a solid defense. United has had great defenders in the past in their squad, such as Steve Bruce, Jaap Stam, Laurent Blanc and Dennis Irwin.
Chris added that, he has also been talking to the younger members of the United squad. He expressed his desire to do well at Manchester United as well, and has also said that it is great to be part of such a big club as United.
Smalling has already impressed, Wesley Brown. Brown is one of the senior members of Manchester United’s squad and has won every trophy there is to win in England with Manchester United. Brown said that Smalling is a great person and he has fitted in perfectly at the club so far.
Brown added that, Chris has been training very well and that he is also ready to perform for United in the next season’s English Premier League campaign.
Brown also said, that is looking forward to the new season and will be relishing United’s encounters against Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. The England international player also stated that, matches against the newly promoted team Blackpool will also be good to play in.
Brown’s younger brother Reece just graduated from Manchester United’s academy and Brown also expressed his dream to play together with his brother in the center of defense either for the senior team or the reserve squad at the club.
Brown said that even though there is an age difference of 12 years between Reece and himself, he said that it will be a great thing for his family if they can manage to play together sometime in the future for Manchester United.
