English Premier League: Statistics and Figures – Part 2
The new comers Blackpool have not been bad themselves. They are currently ninth in the English Premier League table with five games played. Their captain, Charlie Adams has been their driving force from his central midfield position,
the veteran playmaker was thought to be too leggy to play week in week out in the English Premier League but so far, he has defied all odds and has led Blackpool to two wins in five matches.
Adam’s passing ratio is much better than other renowned midfielders in the league as well; the Englishman has completed 297 passes this season which is more than the Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard and the Manchester City midfielder,
Gareth Barry. Blackpool’s goalkeeper has also been on fine form this season, the shot stopper Mathew Gilks has been at the heart of Blackpool’s resilient defence as he has made a total number of twenty four saves in Blackpool’s five league games so far.
Alternatively, Bolton Wanderers who are being managed by Owen Coyle are currently 13th in the English Premier League table. Bolton have had a rocky start to the season but given that their physical game is a result oriented
approach, they have done relatively okay so far. Stuart Holden and Fabrice Muamba who play for Bolton in the central midfield area have been the Wanderer’s main defensive men this season. Both the holding midfielders have won more tackles than anyone so far
in the English Premier League. Their record is matched by Blackburn Rover’s right back, Michel Salgado. Bolton’s game is usually based on aerial long balls and thus it comes as no surprise that Kevin Davies, their striker only managed to complete twenty out
of his total fifty attempted passes against Aston Villa on the weekend.
Chelsea, the English champions are currently 1st in the English Premier League table. In their last game against Blackpool, Chelsea shipped four goals past the Seasiders and will be looking to continue their fine run
of form as they face Manchester City on the coming weekend. However, their man has been Didier Drogba along with Florent Malouda. The Ivory Coast captain has played a part in most of Chelsea’s last thirty goals. He was either involved as an assist maker or
a scorer in his club’s last thirty strikes. More remarkably, Drogba achieved this feat in his last twenty one English Premier League games for Chelsea.
Florent Malouda was Chelsea’s standout player against Blackpool. Malouda had eight shots against the Tangerines; a number that equals his total attempted shots in Chelsea’s opening four encounters against West Ham, Stoke, Wigan
and West Ham United. The Blues have been by far the most exciting team to watch this season as they have been scoring an average of 4.2 goals per game.
The Merseyside Blues, Everton are currently the most fouled team in the English Premier League. Their stalwarts, Steven Pienaar and Mikel Arteta hold the distinction of being amongst the top five most fouled players in the 2010-2011
English League season so far. Under David Moyes, Everton have not a bright start to their season and are presently 19th in the league standings, only one place above the bottom placed West Ham United.
Everton’s last league goal by a recognized striker came in last season’s English Premier League. More accurately, the goal in question was scored by the Nigerian striker, Yakubu versus Blackburn in April of 2010. In Everton’s last
league match against Newcastle, Moyes brought on the young marksman, Jermaine Beckford in an attempt to bring his team back into the game. However, the Englishman had little or no impact on the game as he only completed five of his passes and didn’t even attempt
a shot on target.
