English Premier League: Top transfers of January transfer window (Part 1)
Kyle Walker (Loaned by Tottenham Hotspur to Aston Villa)
Kyle Walker is a prime example of a right-back who had been overshadowed since his inception in the Tottenham Hotspur squad in 2009. The fact that Spurs had abundant replacements for him in their back-line never provided Walker
with an opportunity to set himself up. Nonetheless, the England full-back spot has been much of a debate lately. Should Walker put in decent performances, week in and week out at Villa Park, he could potentially see himself stepping up in the big leagues and
becoming a part of the Three Lions.
Paul Konchesky (Loaned by Liverpool to Nottingham Forest)
Paul Konchesky came into the Liverpool side when Roy Hodgson switched from Fulham to Anfield in 2010. However, just like the manager, the left-back found it hard to survive at the club, as he consistently failed to perform. It
is still unclear whether his poor performances resulted due to poor management or was it a deficiency on his part. Nonetheless, with a loan move to Nottingham Forest on 31 January, it is being hoped that Konchesky can finally get his morale back. The 29-year-old
England international will have to work hard to pave his way back into the Liverpool side.
Jamie O'Hara (Loaned from Tottenham Hotspur to Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Jamie O’Hara is a midfielder who had managed to grow on the fans at White Hart Lane. However, the management at the club had overlooked him more than often. The player was sidelined for a lengthy spell due to a stress fracture
that he picked up in the 2009-10 season. Subsequently, he fell way behind in the picking order at the club and was left begging for a first team opportunity until the Wolverhampton Wanderers stepped in. The Spurs loaned Jamie to the Wolves, who promised him
first team football, on 30 January, for the remainder of the season which in turn would benefit both the player and his new club.
Steve Sidwell (Signed by Fulham from Aston Villa)
Steve Sidwell has eventually found luck after several poor career choices which saw the central midfielder rotting in the dugout at Aston Villa. The player felt dejected and was linked with a move away from the Villans in January.
West Ham came knocking for the player and just when it seemed like he would sign for the Hammers, they pulled out of the deal after realizing that they already had more than enough midfielders. With Sidwell almost running out of luck once again, Fulham seized
the opportunity to land the midfielder and offered him a shot at redeeming his career on 7 January. However, the brightest side of the transfer is the fact that he went from signing for a team that was struggling in the relegation zone to being a part of a
team that is looking to turn its luck around and push for a top spot in the league table.
