English Premier League: Transfer Gossip
Manchester City are considering a bid for Daniel Carrico, the 22 year old Sporting Lisbon central defender, who has made quite an impression on Europe’s elite. He is tied to Sporting Lisbon until
2013 but sources have revealed that Juventus and Atletico Madrid have made enquires about the defender.
Mike Rigg, the Manchester City technical director, told reporters, “We are always looking at players and I can’t deny Carrico is an interesting player. But we haven’t decided on this subject and we are respectful as a club towards other
clubs and contacts.”
Carrico has been reported to be a strong player who is passionate about his game. He’s an intelligent and calm defender despite being so young and plays the position of a sweeper. His market value is said to be at €5 million, but with
City chasing him, the price is expected to rise.
Everton are eyeing Spanish striker Jose Callejon for a move to Goodison Park. The 23 year old almost signed with Wigan Athletic last season, but chose to stay in Spain. Now David Moyes is keeping
a close watch on the young striker, hoping that he will sign with Everton to strengthen their attacking line up.
Callejon is not a complete striker, in the true sense of the word, having only scored two goals last season but the Spaniard is widely recognized for his overall contribution to the game. It is his speed, ability to set up goals and bring
the best out of other players in his squad, which makes him so widely sought after.
This season he has matched last season’s goal tally and being in an improved form, looks to be scoring more goals. Moyes has been disappointed by Jermaine Beckford, the striker failed to make an impression since his arrival at Everton,
which has forced the Blues manager to look for other offensive options.
Chelsea might be considering a move for Croatian defender Darijo Srna, who currently plays at Shakhtar Donetsk. The 28 year old has been with the Ukrainian side since 2003 and has been part of
the side that won three championships and a UEFA Cup victory and so far has an impressive 73 caps for his national side.
Srna’s contract is close to expiring soon and sources reveal that Carlo Ancelotti is giving serious thought to signing him in a possible bargain deal. Srna’s agent also told reporters that there was a chance of the defender going to Stamford
Bridge in the January transfer window.
Srna was previously linked with Chelsea London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but the move never went through. The defender had no intention of moving to White Hart Lane, he told local media a few months ago that he preferred the Blues over
all other English clubs.
He said, “Chelsea is a club that suits my style and my style of play suits them. I want to make a step forward, to play in the Champions League with such a famous club. In general, Chelsea is the best option for me.” Srna is an experienced
versatile player and his arrival at the Bridge will give Ancelotti more options defensively.
