English Premier League Transfer Success: Javier Hernandez
A few eyebrows were raised when Sir Alex Ferguson gave Manchester United the nod to sign Javier Hernandez from Mexican side Guadalajara. The transfer believed to be around £ 7 million, went through before the FIFA World Cup in
South Africa this summer. Commenting on the transfer, Manchester United manager claimed that he had unearthed a gold mine in the shape of the little Mexican.
Fergie’s critics were silenced as soon as they saw the 22-year old score two wonderful goals at the World Cup.
Hernandez continued his goal scoring form from the World Cup when he scored 3 goals in pre-season friendly matches while playing for Manchester United. His first competitive goal for United came in a 3-1 victory over Chelsea FC
in the FA Community Shield, at the start of the season.
From then until now, he has scored 5 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils.
The Mexican, nicknamed Chicharito, netted in an away victory against Valencia FC in the second match of the UEFA Champions League group stage to open his account in the European competition.
He has also fired in 3 goals in the English Premier League, including a brace that he scored against Stoke City on Sunday.
After the game against Stoke, Manchester United skipper Gary Neville heaped praise on the young striker, hinting that the Mexican will have a great career at Manchester United.
The Englishman said, “At this club you get rewarded if you work hard and he deserved his goals against Stoke. He will score lots and lots of goals for this club. He is one of the most exciting young prospects we’ve had for
some time
Javier’s latest strike for United came when he came off the bench to score a goal in the 90th minute against Wolverhampton Wanderers, in the 4th round of the Carling Cup. The match was tied at 2-2 before he
grasped a last-gasp-winner.
Ferguson had been quick to admire the youngster after his performance on Tuesday night.
He said, “He was absolutely brilliant - it was a magnificent goal. He's shaped to shoot, dummied the defender and finished really well. He's very professional, the first out on the training ground and the last one back in every
day and he's rightly getting a lot of praise for his goal scoring”.
With impressive performances in a short span of time, Javier Hernandez is certainly beginning to prove a big success at Old Trafford.
