English Premier League; Wenger confirms Kieran Gibbs out for United clash
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger faces a tough time ahead as he waits for the results of Kieran Gibbs’ latest injury which could rule him out for an indefinite period of time. The Englishman suffered a knock on his ankle against Partizan Belgrade in the Champions
League fixture and is now a doubt for the upcoming clash against Manchester United in the English Premier League.
The 21-year-old has had a number of ups and downs this season; he was given the opportunity to make his debut for the England national team but suffered ankle and knee injuries which kept him out for the better part of the season. He had just recently returned,
only to suffer another ankle injury which could force him on the sidelines, yet again.
Arsene Wenger is anxiously waiting for the results of the scan on his ankle which will determine just how long the youngster will be out for this time. Wenger confirmed that it was not the same ankle which he had injured earlier, which was somewhat of a
relief. However, there is some confirmation that Gibbs is set to miss the long awaited fixture against Manchester United.
Wenger said while speaking to reporters, “Kieran Gibbs has a twisted ankle, an ankle sprain. I don't know how damaged his ankle is - he will have a scan tomorrow.  He is unbelievably unlucky. No, [it is not the same ankle he injured recently], it is the
right one tonight.  I spoke to him, he is quite down. He is on crutches. I cannot tell you more. We will know tomorrow, but he is already out for Monday night.”
Wenger will be disappointed to lose Gibbs for the crucial fixture against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United side, who seem to be the main title contenders with Champions Chelsea faltering. The French manager may also have to do without the services of
Captain Cesc Fabregas, who is yet to be cleared to play over the weekend.
This top of the table clash may very well decide the winners of the Premier League, Arsenal go into the match only a point ahead of Manchester United and will have to win to maintain their dominance. Anything less than a win will open up the title race more,
not only giving United, but Chelsea a chance to catch up.
