English Premier League: Wesley Brown says Technology will be a great addition
Brown, who plays as a defender for Manchester United has said that technology will benefit the game of football rather than destroy the spirit of the game. Wesley is currently part of Manchester United’s pre-season tour to Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.
Brown is a product of Manchester United’s youth academy and has won the UEFA Champions League twice with United. He was part of the treble winning side in 1999 under Ferguson and he was also part of the European double winning side of 2008. Brown, whose primary position is at right back in the defense, also plays in center defense from time to time. He has played alongside some of the greatest Manchester United players ever, like David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Brown recently stated that technology has to be brought in for goal line usage in an interview with the fans at Manchester United’s official website. He said that, he was disappointed when he saw the Frank Lampard goal for England against Germany in the round of sixteen match during the 2010 World Cup disallowed. He added that the ball was so over the goal line that it was incredible that the referee had not seen it.
He further stated that it only takes a few seconds with technology, to check whether the ball was over the line or not, Brown also added that it has worked well in Tennis so it can also work well in Football.
Wesley Brown’s career has been plagued with injuries recently, he said that, a player has to keep his head up high and be positive once he sustains injuries. He explained that it is extremely important to pay attention to what the medical team at the club tells a player about injuries.
The 30-year old defender said that, he was always positive when he got injured and never thought about not returning to the game. He said that to return from injuries players have to work hard and regain fitness.
Brown also praised and thanked France’s new coach and Manchester United’s ex-defender Laurent Blanc by saying that Blanc helped him during his time at United. Brown said that Blanc gave a lot of helpful tips to him which helped him improve his understanding of the game and its defensive side.
With regards to United’s next pre-season match against Philadelphia Union, Brown said that it would be hard work for the United squad but he also said that coming to the U.S.A for the pre-season was very good because players could move around the city as people did not recognize them as football players.
He also said that he was impressed by the United States Soccer team which participated in the FIFA 2010 World Cup. He also expressed his thoughts by stating that, football is getting bigger and bigger in the United States. He also said that more and more kids are playing soccer in U.S.A, so that will help the games development in North America.
