English Premier League: West Ham determined to sign Robbie Keane
West Ham United have once again confirmed that they are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker, Robbie Keane before the transfer window comes to a close on Monday, 1 February, 2011.
West Ham have been indulging in some heavy transfer business in the winter transfer window. Despite the fact that the club is in financial difficulty, David Gold and Sullivan are ready to splash out the cash which is needed to secure their Premier League
status.
The Hammers have been going through a bad run of form of late as they find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table after winning just four out of their 24 games in the English League.
David Gold, co-owner of West Ham United was the person who confirmed that his club is interested in giving Robbie Keane a way out of White Hart Lane. West Ham have already secured the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Bridge-c36733 from Manchester City.
Not only that, they have also signed Gary O’Neill from Middlesbrough in the Championship.
However, the club might part ways with its manager Avram Grant if the British media rumour mill is to be believed. Grant was appointed as West Ham manager in the summer after Gianfranco Zola, club’s ex-manager, was relieved of his duties. West Ham only barely
escaped relegation in the 2009-10 Premier League season and a season later, they find themselves in the same relegation battle all over again. Most importantly, the club’s fans are now getting tired of their team’s effortless performances and thus pressure
is mounting on Grant to turn things around.
David Gold said in his latest interview, “http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robbie-Keane-c31215 is a player we greatly admire. He is clearly available and quality players rarely are. We see him as a potential acquisition. We are looking at all players that are available from top-quality clubs.
David Sullivan (West Ham's co-chairman) was up until the early hours of the morning still pursuing targets that we have. It will probably go right to the wire.”
Talking about Grant’s possible dismissal from the club, Gold stated, “Avram's job is to keep West Ham in the Premier League. That is what his whole life and endeavors will be focused on achieving. There are people out there who are mischief-making and that
is all very sad. I can tell you now that we have a board that is fully behind Avram.”
West Ham United play their next match on the weekend against Nottingham Forest in the fourth round of FA Cup.
