English Premier League news, Sam Allardyce reveals use of “snowy conditions” to get the result against Wolves
Blackburn’s manager Sam Allardyce has come out and revealed that his side benefitted from the tough winter conditions that have prevailed in England over the past two weeks as they managed to use them to their advantage to get a favourable result against
Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening.
Blackburn, who won their match against Wolves by three goals to nil at Ewood Park did well to bounce back from a 7-1 defeat to Manchester United in their last league match before the game against Wolverhampton.
Nonetheless, it was a remarkable result for the Blackburn side, who didn’t train much during the weak as their training pitch was loaded with snow. Sam Allardyce told the media that he gave his players and the rest of the staff two days off after their heavy
defeat to Manchester United so that they can recover from what was an absolute humiliation at Old Trafford just a week ago.
Sam said, "I benefited hugely from the two days off and I'm sure the players did. I was really quite mentally fatigued because it's never off your mind when something like that happens. We were very disappointed but we didn't want to make the players any
more disappointed. They were hurting all week and they knew they had to make sure they put it right”.
He added, "I picked the strongest side I had available and they've gone and done the job. You've got to be satisfied to come back from a 7-1 defeat and win 3-0 at home". Wolves started the match off in brighter fashion than the home side as they struck the
crossbar within the first five minutes of the encounter, not only that, Matt Jarvis also brought out an impressive save from Paul Robinson in the 6th minute of the encounter.
However, Blackburn took the lead later on through David Dunn. Allardyce remarked on his team’s display as he said, "David Dunn's goal settled us down because we weren't looking too clever up to that point. The goal settled us down a bit because of the nerves
from last week. We were clinical and professional. We're climbing the heights now and I have to credit the players. They were determined to put last week's result behind them and they've done a magnificent job".
On the other hand, Mick McCarthy, Wolverhampton Wanderer’s manager said, "We defended badly. Bearing in mind we haven't had a clean sheet for so long, maybe it's not a surprise. We had a bit of bad luck at the start by not scoring but then let's have an
ugly point at 0-0, not concede goals that we shouldn't concede. We started the game really well. We've just got to keep going and keep working at it".
The defeat against Blackburn has now confirmed Wolverhampton’s spot at the bottom of the English Premier League table.
