English Premier League news, Steven Pienaar gives no hints about his future
Steven Pienaar, the Everton midfielder, said he would not be commenting on his future. There have been rumours that the South African international is on his way out and that Tottenham have emerged as leaders amongst the clubs eyeing him. However, Pienaar refused to comment on his future, not giving a hint about his future at Goodison Park.
Pienaar will be out of contract at the end of this season and a new deal has not been agreed upon so far, which gave rise to speculation that the twenty-eight year old could be on his way out.
Tottenham have strongly been linked with the South African midfielder, along with other clubs. Pienaar is an experienced midfielder and it comes as no surprise, as to how much in demand he really is.
Pienaar could be available as early as this January, if he wishes to leave and if Everton can agree upon a deal, with whichever club he is interested in. So far, Tottenham are leading the race but it is understood that the London club would prefer to bring Pienaar during the summer transfer window, when there is a chance of a free transfer.
However, keeping in mind their recent success in the Champions League and the upcoming challenges in the European competition, Tottenham will be looking to boost their squad. Pienaar seems perfect for the task, he brings with him experience, pace and knowledge of the game. It remains to be seen if a move will actually go through or if the player will end up renewing his contract with Everton.
Pienaar was flattered by the apparent interest but refused to give any comments. He said while speaking to reporters,
“No comment. I am still focused on staying at Everton, this season is not over yet, so anything can happen. In football anything can happen, it can change tomorrow, today, no-one knows”.
The Everton midfielder maintained that he was focused with his current club at the moment and did not know about the future. He said:
“I was also told this by one of my team-mates, so I don't know what is going on. The media in England is quite big and everyone can say what they want. I am just happy at Everton and I want to focus on my game”.
