English Premier League news: Alex McLeish’s job still vulnerable
Birmingham City manager, Alex McLeish came out in the media and stated that his job is not yet 100 percent secure even though his side has progressed to the Carling Cup final against Arsenal. City won their semi-final encounter
against West Ham United on 26 January at the Saint Andrew’s stadium in fantastic fashion in extra time to march forward. Carling Cup is one of the domestic league cups in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and Manchester United are the defending champions.
This season, Arsenal are being touted as favourites to win the Carling Cup, but nothing is certain at the moment as Blues will be fighting tooth and nail to win the elusive silverware trophy. Birmingham’s progression to the final
will mark their first final appearance at the Wembley stadium in over five decades. One would think that after achieving such a massive feat, Alex McLeish would be a sure shot favourite to retain his post. However, such is not the case. Birmingham’s dire performances
in the English Premier League have caused uncertainty for McLeish.
In the semi-final matchup against the Hammers, Blues ended up as final winners by an aggregate score line of 4-3 after they secured a 3-1 victory on the night at their home stadium. Last season, Birmingham City secured a ninth
place finish in the Premier League after gaining promotion under the management of Alex McLeish.
The Scotsman has massively improved a once dejected side, but his credentials remain clouted in ambiguity. The main cause for concern for Birmingham has been their below average goal scoring record. Birmingham have only managed
to score 21 goals in 22 matches so far in the Premier League. They are thus embroiled in a mighty relegation battle at the moment.
McLeish responded to the questions surrounding his future after his team’s win over West Ham United by stating, "I don't want to talk about or answer that type of question. I'll just keep working to the best of my ability and whatever
happens, happens. I'm not invulnerable if results don't go our way. We are in the results business and that is football and I accept I've got to get results.” Birmingham will be looking to spring an unlikely upset on 27 February when Arsenal play against them
at the Wembley stadium. Moreover, Blues will also be counting upon the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cameron-Jerome-c8284 and Nikola Zigic to hit the back of the net consistently in the Premier League to pull them out of the relegation mire.
