English Premier League preview: Liverpool versus Everton
This derby Premier League fixture will be Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish’s first League match at Anfield. The former Liverpool legend has yet to impress as a manager, having been defeated in the first two games in charge of the Reds. Dalglish has not
had the dream-start many Kopites had hoped for, with his first match against the League leaders, Manchester Untied, and the defeat at the hands of Blackpool last week only weakened the claim that he could restore the Reds to their former days of glory.
When Dalglish was previously managing Liverpool, his last three games were against Everton. His task is now to stop Everton from acquiring a win over the Reds in this century at Anfield. The last time the Toffees managed a double win over the Kopites was
in 1984-85 season.
The Liverpool captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 will miss this match, although Fernando Torres’ goal in the mid week fixture will have provided the much needed belief for the Reds. The Toffees captain, Tim Cahill will not be playing in this derby fixture, as he is
serving international duty with his Australian team. Cahill has been attributed to be the most proficient derby player for the Blue side in the post-war period. Toffees' manager, David Moyes, will hope to see his team repeat a similar goal scoring performance
in this League fixture, that they had against Scunthorpe in the FA cup match. If the Everton repeat a similar goal scoring feat of five, they could manage a win over the Reds on Anfield turf, which has not been observed by Moyes’ team in eight years.
Both teams are nearly on the smae level in the Barclays table, with Everton one spot above the number 13th place of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, purely on goal difference. Both teams have played 21 games this season and have acquired 25 points. The Reds have managed two more
wins than the Toffees'  five this season. Liverpool have drawn four games compared to Everton’s ten. Moyes’ team have lost six fixtures as opposed to Dalglish’s men’s ten. The Reds have scored two more goals than the Toffees’ 23 this campaign and Everton have
conceded four less than Liverpool’s 29 in this League season.
Kenny Dalglish was present in the Reds squad as a player in the 1984-5 season, when Everton secured the League double over Liverpool. When the Reds won 1-0 against the Toffees last season, there were two red cards shown to Sotiros Kyrgiakos and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208.
There have been ten red cards shown in the last twelve League clashes between these two sides. The previous four fixtures between these two teams at Anfield have resulted in only four goals being scored.
Dalglish’s team is on an unconvincing run of form, having being defeated in four out of their previous five League games. They have managed to lose ten matches already this season so far, which spells their worst form in the League in 57 years. However,
Liverpool have been victorious in five out of their previous six games played at home in the League. This fixture will mark Fernando Torres’ 100th appearance for Liverpool in the English Premier League. The Spanish striker has managed to score 63
times in his 99 appearances for the Anfield club. Kenny Dalglish has scored five goals against the Toffees when he was a player for the Reds, and he has clashed with Everton 20 times as a manager, winning eleven fixtures, drawing six and losing three.
Everton have a spectacular away form this season, having been defeated in only three games from their total eleven played away from home this season. The Toffees have the joint highest tally of drawn matches this season, totaling at ten. The toffees have
only been awarded a single penalty in the last 73 years when playing at Anfield, it was Wayne Clarke who converted it into a goal in 1988.
This fixture will not be played by captain Steven Gerrard, due to the Englishman incurring a suspension. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 will be absent due to a shoulder injury.
Everton’s injury list includes http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tim-Cahill-c35085 who will be serving international duty.
