English Premier League transfer activity: Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United involved
Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in French winger Charles N’Zogbia, who wants to leave his current club Wigan Athletic. The Latics have been hit by financial crisis and a bid from a big club might be too tempting for them
to turn down.
However, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp will personally have to convince N’Zogbia to join him at White Hart Lane, after the player expressed his desire to join French Ligue 1 side, Olympique de Marseille.
Harry, however, has denied all rumours about bidding for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. It was previously believed that Tottenham were eying a transfer for the unsettled French forward.
Redknapp said, “There’s nothing in that. He’s a good player, I like him, he looks a real talent. But certainly we haven’t made any enquires at all for him. There’s definitely nothing going on there at the moment. Before we can
bring anyone in, I’ve spoke with the chairman, we need to shift one or two. It’s going to be a case of the only way we can do any business would be to let one or two go and whatever we get in we can go and invest.”
Meanwhile Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov is the target of Italian side Juventus. It is reported that the Bulgarian striker is uncertain of his future at Old Trafford, and a switch to Italy might not be off the cards. Berbatov
has not enjoyed a consistent playing time this season, and the former Spurs man was not even on the bench in United’s 2-0 win over Wigan at the weekend.
Emergence of Javier Hernandez and the return of Wayne Rooney will further reduce Dimitar’s chances of 1st team action and he might chose to leave the Red Devils for the Italian giants.
Juve, have also geared up for a move for United’s 19-year old sensation Federico Macheda. Juventus may consider Macheda as a possible replacement for their Brazilian Striker Amauri Carvalho, who could be out of action until January
after suffering from a knee injury.
The club's director Giuseppe Marotta is also reported to be planning to travel to Manchester to discuss a potential transfer deal that would see the young Italian striker move to Turin.
