English Premier League update: Tottenham Hotspur FC, Blackburn Rovers FC
Tottenham Hotspur welcome back their defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Woodgate-c19069, who has been out of action since November 2009.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international last featured for Spurs in the record 9-1 demolition of Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane in November, last year.
Jonathan’s career has been littered with injuries and a groin problem that occurred last year limiting him to just 3 appearances for the Lilywhites in 2009/2010 season.
It was reported that Woodgate had returned to full training this week and could achieve match fitness in 2 weeks time.
However, manager Harry Redknapp believes the former Real Madrid player needs a bit of match practice before coming at pace with the fast nature of the English game.
Harry suggested that a loan move away from The Lane, for the centre back, may be useful to help him get playing time under his belt.
Redknapp said, “I spoke to Jonathan and I said to him that if he comes through the next couple of weeks then it might be a good idea for him to go out on loan to play some matches and I think he fancies that. He has been out a
long time and he is a fantastic centre half.”
Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Keane has casted doubts over the future of club captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christopher-Samba-c9212.
Keane, who will remain Blackburn’s 1st team manager until the end of the season, has to resolve Samba’s issues before planning to buy in the upcoming January transfer window.
It had been rumoured that Christopher was unsettled at the club due to the firing of former manager Sam Allardyce.
However, Steve revealed that the 26-year-old defender wanted to move away from Riverside, long before Sam’s departure.
The manager said, “I'll speak to Chris. His agent's been telling me he's been asking to leave the club for a year. That's been news to me. Maybe he's a little bit annoyed or a little bit confused about the way the club's going.
Like everybody else, I'll sit him down and tell him what the plans are.”
Samba is doubtful to start in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385’ next league match due to an ankle injury.
Blackburn are 12th in the table, 1 place ahead of Stoke City, who they face on Boxing Day at Ewood Park.
