English Premier league fans pick their best EPL 11
English Premier League followers have voted to pick the best Premier League XI over the years. It was a long and hard debate between football fans around the world. As a result, Barclays, the official EPL sponsors, have used the power of social media to
enable fans to pick an all time Premier League XI.
For the past 30 days, Barclays have conducted various surveys on fans from all around the world on their Facebook Page. That page has more than 260,000 fans and Barclays conducted various discussion and nominations for each position. This facebook page conducted
various other polls and the most popular suggestions were arranged in order to come up with the best line-up of all time.
Manchester United, as expected, has the highest number of its players in the list with 7 in total along with a manager coming from the Red Devils as well. United took the right back and left back positions in the form of Gary Neville and Patrice Evra. Furthermore,
United’s legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel was installed as the goal keeper. Defensively, two of premier league’s top centre backs were chosen in the form of Tony Adams and John Terry. Arsenal’s Tony Adams, who is considered to be the club’s greatest player
by its own fans, partners current Chelsea Captain John Terry.
There was no doubt that on the left of midfield, veteran United midfielder Ryan Giggs was the unanimous choice by almost all the fans. Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard were voted ahead of the likes of Frank Lampard, Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira. Scholes,
who was voted Barclays Player of the month for August quite recently, was expected to be included in the list, owing to his evergreen and seemingly never aging career.
David Beckham was given the right midfield spot, as he edged out 2008 FIFA World Player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo in the polls. Both wore the legendary number 7 shirt in the premier league, but Beckham was chosen in front of the Real Madrid man. The
forward line displayed an all French partnership with Manchester United’s Eric Cantona partnering former Arsenal and Barcelona player Thierry Henry. Both these players were chosen in front of the likes of Alan Shearer, Dennis Bergkamp and Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
Fans were also required to fill out the name of the boss of this dream team and Manchester United long serving boss Sir Alex Ferguson won the poll by a land slide with 64 percent of the votes.
With so much heritage in the premier league over the years, such a team is justified as it had arguably the best performing players to have ever played in this league. Manchester United, owing to their overwhelming success in the premier league has produced
some of the finest players to have played for this prestigious league
