What do you like? Stubben, Pessoa, Crosby, Colligate ( I may have spelt that wrong) , Max Benz, or do you get your saddles custom made?

  1. I've ridden in Bates, Pessoa, Collegiate, HDR, Smith & Worthington, Tad Coffin, custom, and more brands that I've probably forgotten by now. Right now, the saddle I'm favoring is actually the Collegiate Diploma Convertible. The Easy Change Gullet system is great if you ride a variety of horses or have a horse that changes shape throughout the season. The traditional flocked panels allow for future adjustments, unlike the foam panels you see in some of the newer and cheaper saddles. The stitching is superb, the seat flat and twist narrow to provide a close feel over fences. The leather is high quality, especially for the price, and the dyes won't rub off on your breeches. This is definitely the best saddle in the price range.

If you have some more money to spend, and you don't need to worry about riding horses with varying builds the Pessoa A/O or Pessoa Legacy XP are both great close contact saddles. The Pessoa saddles accomodate the forward position favored in the current jumper and equitation rings. The leather is superb soft-grain, so you need to take care never to ride in it when wearing jeans, denim, or abrasive fabric. Making sure you only wear breeches will assure that you won't scratch or scar the leather.

I'm not a huge fan of the Crosby saddles (I don't think they're as well made as other saddles in the price range), and I've never ridden in a Stubben. I have friends and colleagues who won't ride in anything else, but I never cared for the styling.

  2. Depends on what you are doing.

I love the Pessoas for jumping. They are well built and it you are riding one horse they fit well. The leather is super nice and they are a very well made saddle.

For all round I love the Colligate. I have one a Senoir Event saddle (an old one) and it is great for doing a little of everything from jumping to dressage.

As I ride western most times I use the english for training in the arena I like that I can jump in it or get a fairly good seat for dressage. It is a great all round saddle for me .

  3. I use Performance Saddlery > Albion saddles, tack and accessories

  4. i love pessoas they fit alot of horses.. and very comfterable. i love colligate they have an adjustible tree that is wonderful.. i have a colligate but love my friends pessoa (more comfertable) the most comfterable saddle ive ever sat in is a Bates. very comfy seat and has a adjustable tree so it fits any horse ive tried it on. expensive, but totally worth it.
