Question:

English Show Cloths Questions ????????

I am starting to get into showing more serious and want to get clothes for english because its not as causal as western.

I have a very slim budget because my parents won't help pay for clothes. They pay for the show cost, though.

So far I need to know the Must haves for english.

I have a Jacket, Breeches or jodphurs, boots, helmet and the undershirt.

What else do I need?

I am going to create my own jacket to cut cost. I am creating a jacket out of one at Good Will or places.

I have paddock boots.

Can I put half-chaps over them?

Can I use these, or do I have to have the Knee high boots.

I can borrow a helmet.

What can I use to for the undershirt.

  1. your going to need a pair of tall boots, only kids 12 and under get to wear paddock boots. theyre expensive, mine were 350, but theyre the zippup. if you get the tie up you can reduce the cost by another 100 dollars probably.

making your own jacket is extremely smart!

the undershirt.. maybe a guys button down shirt? if your showing in the spring, you want a nice bright color to pop out, but in the winter you want a darker color. make your jacket blue, and get a light blue guys shirt for like 20 dollars, and maybe make the color by yourself?

  2. A tie and gloves

whether you can use half chaps or not depends on the show.

If you have long hair you should really wear a hairnet.

  3. it works if you don't want to get expensive knee boots to have cream jodpurs and paddock boots to stop the jodpurs riding up and getting creased you should use jodpur clips which you can buy a pair for only a few pounds which just clip onto each side of the boot and it pulls your jodpurs and stops them creasing

i wouldn't say half chaps i think these are only really used in cross country .ir also depends what event and what standard your doing if it isn't to major then just what you have suggest would be great :)

for under shirt you could probally go to a charity shop to buy some a shirt which you could alter

make sure the helmet fits or it will be obvious or will hit and preferebly have a black ordrak blue cover on it if possible the same shade as your jacket

have fun and good luck in your competition

    you also need gloves

check on ebay and do an internet shearch as often they have guides on how to make your own ...well...everything

on ebay ther is stuff starting from oly a few pounds here is a link       http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/Rider-Cloth...

  4. you need to have a belt and you need tall boots(knee high)

for an undershirt it needs to be a collared cotton shirt that buttons all the way up and you need to put something over the buttons so you can't see them

you should also get balck gloves

  5. If it is just local, then don't worry too much!

    1) You can wear any type of jacket or shirt, a tie is not needed

but some people like to wear one. You do not have to wear jackets and shirts that are purposed for riding, however it will not be as comftorble for you

    2) Breeches/Johds must be a sensible colour (Cream, White, Black, Dark Brown) White or cream looks most professional but any is OK

    3) Any suitable riding boot is fine. Put half chaps over your paddock boots, once you are over about 12 you should wear chaps or long boots. It doesn't matter what material the chap is, as long as it is not a silly colour like pink, purple, blue, etc.

    4) You can use any undershirt. My friend bought an undershirt, jacket, and tie from sainsburies in the mens section because it was so much cheaper for her!

Really, do not stress too much over what to wear in a local show - when it comes to national shows, etc, the rules are much more strict, but don't worry!!

I am sorry but when you are 14 you do NOT have to wear knee high boots! What happened to leather chaps/gaiters?? I always wear, and see them at shows!

  6. you can use paddock boots but you will need to get gaters for right below your knees ( like 8$)

for a shirt you will need a ratcatcher show shirt that you can get out of a catalog or a tack store (like 20$)

youll need a stock pin for the collar of the ratcatcher and a hair net (5$)

i would go to a used tack store for your jacket if you dont have much monet... goodwill wont have the right kind of fit... the reason jackets are so expensive is that they are specifically designed for riding so that you have enough room where you need it...

most tack stores have consignment items... maybe just what youre looking for... just look in your phone book and call and ask if they sell used tack and clothes and see if they have something you need... providing your parents will drive you there of course...

if youre over 12 years old or showing in anything more than crossrails then you need tall boots... they will be called FIELD boots... not dress boots... field boots have laces on the front and dress boots dont...

you'll need gloves too (like 15$)

  7. It depends on how prestigious the show is. if Its a schooling show you could wear chaps, but if its not you should get tall boots. If your 13 and under you can wear garters with your tall boots. Gloves and a straight pin for the  collar will make a good impression on the judge.

  8. Rider turnout is very important at local shows, you don't want to take shortcuts anywhere!

If you decide to create your own jacket, keep it conservative at black or navy blue.

You can get a decent pair of synthetic-leather tallboots for less than $50, cheaper if they're used.

Paddock boots are okay, but you would have to wear fine-grained leather half chaps over them (all polished like your boots, both boots and chaps black). It's cheaper to just get the field boots, since fine-grained leather half chaps are super expensive.

You can get a used show shirt from your local tack shop... stick with white or pastel colors. Make sure it has the extra strip of fabric with it! This is the detachable stock tie/choker that you'll need to wear over your collar.

You don't need a stock pin, although it adds some individuality to the outfit.

You need black show gloves- leather is preferable, crochet is okay.

Your breeches should be khaki or beige, with a black or brown leather belt.

  9. Please make sure to wear a belt :)

If you are going to small schooling shows, paddocy boots are *kind* of ok, but if you are older than 12, you should really be in tall boots. They do make 1/2 chaps that have the tall boot look, so if you're really on a budget, that could work.

Make sure your helmet is a solid velvet helmet, not a plastic one with vents that looks like a bike helmet.

Look for a shirt on ebay. There are some that are really cheap, or try your tack shop - they often have a second-hand clothes bin.

Good luck and have fun showing!
