  1. Here I have a list and if you ride western well English saddle must be FIT for the horse so make sure you do that but here

Well I will just say go to this website and look at all the stuff that says English Saddle....English Saddle Pad etc.

    http://www.tackroominc.com/english-bridl...

  2. Well that's NICE!

Okay, I'm being facetious...  The reason I am is because you haven't told us what TYPE of English saddle you want.

    Saddles:

All Purpose:  Means a little bit of jumping, flat work, dressage.

Huntseat:  These are mainly for jumping.  (Warmbloods, TBs)

                 Close contact

                  Kneerolls

    Dressage:  (Warmbloods)

Saddle Seat:  (Saddlebreds, Tennesse Walking horses, Arabians.)

You also need to consider how much you want to spend.

Cheap English saddles are typically made in India with poor leather tanning and craftsmanship.

Better saddles are made in Europe.

Now to go with your saddle, for the bare basics you'll need:

    1.)  Stirrup leathers

    2.)  Stirrup Irons

3.)  Girth  (I'd get a leather one with elastic on at least one end.

    4.)  Saddle pad

Remember to measure both you and your horse before you buy a saddle.

Okay, your next question should be what type of bridle...

  3. ~Helmet

    ~Gloves (optional)

~Crop (English equivalent to a rommel [sp?].)

    ~Saddle

    ~Bridle

    ~Reins

    ~Bit

    ~Saddle pad (AKA numnah)

    ~Saddle blanket

    ~Girth

    ~Stirrup leathers

~Stirrup Irons (I prefer Peacock [safety] irons)

    ~Chest plate / martingale (optional)

I reccomend a starter set like this:   http://www.horse.com/English-Tack/Englis...

  4. If you want to jump high then a jumping saddle is good, if you want to do dressage then a dressage saddle is good, if you want to jump but now very high then an all purpose saddle is best. You will need a girth, HEAVY WEIGHT stirrups(if u loose ur stirrup then its easer to find a heavy weight stirrup) stirrup leathers saddle pad, half pad, full cheek or D-ring bit that is french linked and preferably Happy Mouth so you dont hav to warm your bit in the winter, a bridle(NOT A flash bridle though) and martingales are a waste of money unless you want to stick to a particular dicipline like Hunter only or Jumper only. If you will be jumping over three feet then i suggest leg wraps or open front boots. if you choose leg wraps make sure you have a professional show you how to preplery do it, because as the saying goes "no wraps are better than leg wraps that are wrapped incorrectly"

  5. my tack that i use consists of this:

    • wintec 250 all-purpose saddle [synthetic tack is sooo much easier to care for.]

    • courbette black leather bridle [comes with reins]

    • bit [i use an eggbutt french link]

    • stirrup leathers [get them long. trust me i always buy mine too short for some reason. you can always punch more holes in them if you need to.]

    • fillies stirrup irons [they come with the pads most of the time but if  not...]

    • fillies stirrup pads

    • english girth [go with a girth that has double elastic. if you plan to show, then go gor somthing that has elastic only on one side, but matches your saddle.]

    • saddle pad [you'll need a white show pad even if you dont show. i like to use the show pad between my saddle and my schooling pad whenever he seems a bit sensative on his back. it prevents brusing. you'll also want to get a schooling pad. choose a color, any color. it's just for fun =D]

depending upon whether you want to jump or not, there's a few other things i use.

    • breast collar [once again, make sure it matches your saddle. i use this no matter if i'm jumping or not.]

    • splint boots or sports medicine boots [splint boots are cheaper]

    • bell boots [i use these constantly. i hate the thought of my horse throwing a shoe while i'm schooling.]

and you'll need a few things as the rider =]

    • jodphers or breeches [trust me, jeans end up rubbing and then you'll just be hurting.]

    • paddock boots/ field boots [filed boots are taller, if you go for the paddock boots, i suggest getting half chaps as well. it makes riding more comfy.]

    • helmet [go with troxel, tipperary, international, or a well known brand like those. they come in lots of fun colors and they're nice and cheap.]

    • gloves [get the suede grip palm kind. they keep your hands warm in the winter, and if you have a horse that tends to pull, they prevent blisters.]

hope this helps a bit =D

  6. When you buy a saddle, it usually doesn't come with stirrups and stirrup leathers (the straps the stirrups are attached to). You can sometimes find a second hand saddle with the stirrups and leathers.

You also need a girth, which you can measure once you have the saddle.

You also need a bridle, and bit. The bridle you can buy now, and I would ask some one who knows how to fit one, like a riding instructor, for which size you should buy. You also need reins, and if you get a secondhand bridle, sometimes they come with reins as well.

You also need a saddle blanket. A nice padded one would work fine, but if your horse has very high withers, you might also need a half pad as well.

If you aren't exactly sure, I would get someone who you trust, like a friend who is experienced with horses, to help you, as something that doesn't fit right won't do you any favors. It can be dangerous when you ride, or hurt your horse. I bought almost everything for my horse secondhand, don't be afraid too.

    Good Luck!

  7. for an english saddle you will need:

    girth

    stirrup leathers

    stirrup irons

martingale if ur horse needs it.

also get nice leather cleaner :)

  8. If you want the basic stuff, normally in a tack and feed magazine I have seen "sets". They are not really the best quality and if you think you might possibly resell this then I would go for buying stuff alone.

    1. Saddle

Make sure this saddle fits the horse and with and tack and feed store/mgazine they should be able to tell you how to tell if it fits

    2. Saddle pad

Do not get the quilted ones if you are not going to put a riser/half pad on top of that for extra padding. You can normally buy great ones for just $15, plain white will do, and do not get the neon colored ones, they tend to be very thick and hold heat easily.

    3. Sturrip irons and leathers

Normally, any ol sturrip irons will do, just make sure they are not too big or not too small. Sturrip leathers need to match your saddle and when you put them in, make sure that the metal bar stays horizontal for saftety

    4. Girth

Do not buy an old girth! Buy a brand new one for your horse for one time I used an old girth that looked in great shape but the elastic snapped on me and it was not fun. You will also be able to ask or find a way to measure for size

    5. Bridle

A simple bridle with reins will work, and you can get away with using your western bit I bet. If your horse has a normal sized head, just get a horse size. Normally you have to put these together your selves if you are buying from a tack shop, so have an experienced english rider help you if you are unsure.

    6. Extras

There are many extras you can buy for your horse. You can buy boots, but unless you are jumping, you will not need these. If your horse starts to hit his hooves while cantering, then it owuld be smart to buy some bell boots. Boots are pretty much the same for english and western purposes.

*Tip: Look up a video on how to fit english tack, it will help you ALOT!*

    Good luck and have fun!

  9. Very simple answer, talk to a local saddlery, look for one that does repairs , not just a "shop". You want a proper saddler, and they will advise , and come out to see your horse if you are serious.

  10. just go to this web site

    http://www.equusnow.com/

have a lot of fun shopping tell your horse to have fun working in its new saddle and have fun riding

  11. Um need more information. You say about saddle, then some parts of the saddle, but then you say bridle. I'm kinda confused. Also how come your 'thinking of buying a saddle' for your horse. Hmm..

  12. For the very basic tack, you will need;

    Saddle

    Stirrup leathers and irons

    Girth

    Saddle pad

    Bridle with reins

    Helmet (do not forget it!)

  13. 1. English Saddle (must fit you and the horse's back)

    2. Girth (measure for horse's girth size first)

    3. Bridle,Bit, Reins (horse, pony, cob, draft size. determine the horse's head size and breed to fit; measure cheek-to-cheek of horse's mouth and how harsh the bit needs to be and where pressure is applied that is appropriate for your discipline. No western bits; usually braided reins that come with a standard english bridle work fine)

    4. Stirrup leathers (adult or junior, matching saddle, leather is best)

    5. Stirrups (metal, measure the size of your foot and determine the width you need to keep your foot in the iron)

    6. Regular saddle pad (not western, fleece or sheepskin or some related material to keep saddle from rubbing)

    7.  Martingales, draw reins, breastplates, cruppers (help keep the saddle from sliding back or too forward; artificial devices used to prevent horse's head from coming up or to maintain desired headset, etc - NOT essential)

    8. Gel/foam/therapeutic/half pads (can be placed under the saddle, between the essential saddle pad and the saddle, prevents too much pressure on one area or sensitive backs, good to have)

    There you go!

  14. When it comes to stirrups, seriously look into the ones that will let your foot come out should you fall. You definitely don't want to fall off and be dragged just because your foot is stuck :(

  15. well usually the saddle will have the stirrups already, and usually you have to but the girth in less its a used saddle....then you will need a bit, bridle, and reins, saddle pad....maybe a riser to go under your saddle if you want one....

  16. u sound a bit inexpierienced. but u need:

    saddle

    stirrups

    stirrup leathers

    girth

    saddle pad

    bridle

    reins

a bit (if it doesnt come on the bridle)

a helmet (unless u wanna die)

i hope this fits in ur financial budget. im lucky, i got full tack 4 free frum 1 of my teachers who sold her horse a few yrs bac. and it fits good!!! (ok, i guess u didnt need 2 no that, but o well)
