English Taylor treats herself to LET card in Morocco
English Emily Taylor treated herself to the LET (Ladies European Tour) membership for the 2013 season after she finished second at the Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, this week, in Morocco.
Taylor is an amateur, and grabbing the LET card in a field packed with experienced and professional stars is a big achievement. The English golfer kept the momentum rolling all the way through as she carded a 69, 66, 68, 67 and 71 each in five rounds.
The last day of the tournament was a scene of disappointment and joy, with early losers cruising to the top 30 spots, winning their memberships. On the other hand, first and second round leaders found themselves slipping to lower positions after the second round concluded.
Taylor maintained a solid grip on the match right from the start of the five-day tournament, fully capitalising on favourable weather and course conditions.
Her best form was seen in the second round in which she posted a 66. She slapped six birdies and stood clear of any bogey, which gave her much-needed confidence.
Coming on strong, Taylor posted another bogey-free round after she posted a 67 on the fourth day on Sunday. She further cemented her position in the last round, firing another 67 to take the second position along with Nikki Campbell of Australia.
Sharing her thoughts while speaking to the media at the end of the tournament, the English amateur said that she is more than happy as the competition was tougher than she had thought.
She said that winning was not on her mind, but the LET membership is certainly a big prize.
“I didn’t expect it to be honest. I did play well in the Pre Qualifying but it’s just fantastic to finish tied second, I’m really happy,” said Taylor.
“I was good with my irons this week, the putting wasn’t great but tee to green I hit a lot of greens and a lot of fairways so I gave myself a lot of chances”.
Campbell, a much more experienced player than most of the contenders in the Q School roster, also shot an overall 341. She carded a 66, 71, 69, 69 and 66 each in five rounds.
