I know that strike in protest means going on strike to protest. In this context, protest means a disagreement.

But another context for protest is the action where people hold banners and such. Is it possible to go on strike in protest (for that context)? That means, wanting to stop work in a protest.

Haha. Do you get what I'm saying?

Sorry, I'm in Grade 10 but I got Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and my head just thinks about stuffs like that. It makes me have a little fear of reading too.

Help... This thought has been with me for about four or five days now.

Thank you.

  1. strike = protest

    strike = disagreement

    strike = hold banners (stop work)

    The only thing I'm disliking about this train of thought  is where you switch from a connection of a meaning to the word having an action.  You switch your thought linking from a definition to a verb.

  2. You have the concept.  If you bought a car at a dealership and it didn't work, you would ask them to fix it.  If they refused to fix it and said that you were a fool to have bought such a crummy car in the first place,  you could walk up and down the street with a billboard around your neck saying I GOT CHEATED.   You are protesting the way you were treated.

    If you were supposed to be at work and you are treated badly by your boss, you could wear the billboard in front of your workplace.  This is a true "strike" because you are supposed to be at work but you aren't working.  You are striking for your "rights".    Of course, you won't get paid during your "strike" which is why strikes are so painful.

  3. Yes, you can go on strike in protest against something.  Although going on strike is protesting, you you not repeating yourself to say "go on strike in protest."  However, you should say what it is you are protesting.  Write something like "going on strike in protest of unfair treatment of workers."
