English Transfer News: Mesut Ozil to join Manchester United or Chelsea?
Mesut Ozil is high in demand. The new kid on the block is not an underrated chap who has had some good finishes and a few moments of brilliance. Ozil starred for his club and for his national team in the recently concluded World Cup in South Africa. With his above average performances in a star-studded team and his ability to score crunch goals for his club, the player has built a stature of professionalism even amongst the veteran and elite of football.
Since his spectacular performance in the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, top notch clubs from all over the world have been bidding for the prodigal player. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder himself has stated that it would be like a dream come true if he is able to play in the English Premier League. Cash rich clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City have shown great interest in the German international and it is quite probable that before the season starts, the young gun might make a move out of his present club, Werder Bremen.
This latest statements contradict his earlier statements in the summer when he snubbed all offers from other clubs after the World Cup, saying that he was most likely to spend the next season at his present club. The German club was receiving offers as big as 30 million pounds. Even though the club cherishes his presence in the club, because of which they have indeed prospered, but it seems that the club will ignore the earlier statements made by the player and his agent and will sign into a transfer contract if the money paid for him seems good enough.
It has come as no surprise that these recent statements suggest that Ozil is on the verge of a move to a bigger club as his earlier non-moving policy had indeed confounded many. Experts analyse it as a clever way of delaying the inevitable and are increasing the price of the player.
Ozil, who is of Turkish descent, was part of the most diverse and young squad that the German team has ever assembled. It could even contend with other teams in that aspect. Ozil played a pivotal role in the German success in the World Cup as he had to replace the original midfielder and captain of Germany, Michael Ballack who was ruled out of the World Cup because of an injury. Germany easily powered through to the semi-finals in South Africa 2010 but was finally defeated by Spain. They did however come third after defeating Uruguay.
Ozil played a crucial role in the midfield for the Germans and heavily assisted his strikers. He was among the most impressive young talents in the World Cup and was about to win the award for that too.
The reason for the transfer is also because Werder Bremen is looking for money and Ozil has got just one year left on his contract with the club. Therefore it is apparent that the club will transfer him to some other club for a grand amount of money.
The star from Bundesliga has claimed that if his club wants him to have a transfer, he will do so. In fact, he would love it if he can make it to the English Premier League. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan have also shown great interest in him. Real Madrid in fact is willing to pay a lot more than his market price to the club. With the money laden Jose Mourinho guiding the coach, it can be said surely that the Portuguese wont given in that easily.
Though Real Madrid will have a lot of money, the German midfielder will have to make his way to the top and work harder at Real, Barca and Inter than he would have to perform at English clubs. The equation adds to the likelihood of him landing up in the English League. Manchester United and Chelsea have already claimed unofficial bids on him and the negotiations have long since been taking place.
While talking to media Ozil stated, “There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for. Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them. When you are looking at moving clubs it's impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea”.
He also told that if either of the clubs approached him with a good offer it would be very hard for him to deny it. Therefore, everything depends on who comes up with the better offer first. Ozil said, “I am a winner and, when I am looking for a new club, I simply look at where I can be the most successful and where I can win the most trophies. If you look at the recent history of Manchester United and Chelsea then it's clear that a player can be very successful there. Of course clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are of huge interest and the Premier League's top two clubs are of serious interest to me when the time comes”. Ozil admitted that one of the reasons why he wants to make the transfer is that he wants to gain trophies and titles with big clubs like the Red Devils and the Blues.
About his contract and legalities of his transfer, he informed, “I am under contract with Werder for another year and it is impossible for me to say if a deal will be done this summer. They may decide that they want to keep me for another season or they may decide to sell me this summer so they can get some money for me. That is up to the club”.
