  1. Western Pleasure?

    or

    Western Speed?

    which one?

  2. I ride English.

I have nothing against western riding, as long as its riding, it's okay to me. I do like the looks of English better. I think it looks more disciplined and careful. You have to pay attention to detail. I don't know anything about western riding, and i love the looks of a western rider, riding across a huge field, where the horse and rider are totally in sync, it's beautiful. But i am an English rider right now. I hope to learn western one day though. They are both beautiful.

  3. Depends what sort of western you mean.

I ride both, English and Western as in 'Hunter under saddle, Western Pleasure' etc.

English as in basic dressage, hacking.

And, they have English events at Western shows in Australia! (perhaps other places too but I have not looked into it).

Also, I do this on the same horse, he will happily be a Western pleasure mount or do basic dressage and he switches between the two with ease!!!

It's all about versitility of the horse. Gotta love Quarter Horses!

I think both disciplines have their own positives.

  4. I took Western lessons and then switched and stayed with English

I liked Western because of the ruggedness looks of it and the comfort of the saddle! Also like it because the horses look tough!

I Choose and stuck with English because I really wanted to be different and also learn to jump!! And because the horses look so neat doing what they do. Plus its because its easier/less complicated to tack up!(The things English riders wore I liked and lessons at the English barn were less expensive...)

  5. probably western for comfort, you cant beat a bareback ride to the beach

    but i love dressage

  6. ENGLISH! ENGLISH! ENGLISH! English riding gives u more options like jumping hacking etc etc etc  English is really comfy after a while riding English so GO ENGLISH RIDING!!!!!!!!!!

    HOPE I HELPED *_*

  7. Well i started out riding English and it was a blast and i thought that Western was the worst. I just thought rednecks rode Western. But then i  tried Western. It wasn't like i thought. it was more comfortable. with English it was SO much stress to be perfect and with western it was so much laid back and it was okay. you still have sit right and stuff, but i believe that western riders care more about the horse than the competition. and in the English world it was mostly about the competition. i do compete i am only 14 and i compete western pleasure and i am all calm and i see all the English riders they are all stressed out because the wanted to be perfect. So what i am saying is that western is more comfortable. and as you can probably see i like western.

  8. I have never ridden English but it looks much lighter and comfortable for the horse. I ride western but have been thinking of trying English. I think English looks much more refined but I've seen some beautiful westerns.

  9. Well i ride with both an english and a western saddle, depending what im doing. My mare absolutley loves the western, i do 2, but i also love the english. It all depends on what suits you and your horse.

But nothing can beat a beautifully engraved western, but then again you can get some real nice looking english to

  10. Comfort-wise, western for me. My western saddle is super comfy, especially for long rides. I like english as well and my horse looks better tacked up english, but i just don't do any english diciplines now. I ride western pleasure, have done some local jumpers and equitation and recently started reining. I guess all-around I'd have to say I like western better.

  11. english, because i do jumping and the courses change and theres more to do to where western theres one pattern for everything it does not change and that would make me bored out of my mind.

  12. I like english better.

When it comes to looks and tack and comfort English is all about classical lines and making things look effortless and beautiful. I find english riding more fun to watch and to ride.

In english you can jump too! Jumping is a ton of fun and you can't jump in a western saddle.

I could go on anmd on but bascially it's the classical lines, the partnership (I'm sure you get this feeling in western too but when a horse and rider trust eachother as they go over a fence it feels magical) , the jumping and simply the fact that I've always loved english riding!

I've tried western a few times but never really enjoyed it

    Hope I could help!
