English Women’s Hockey Team Head Coach Danny Kerry seeking EuroHockey Nations Gold Medal

The Women’s hockey squad of England has headed to the EuroHockey Nations with the objective of coming back with only the gold medal, which is more than enough in their desires. It is vital to mention here that the English team is the only line-up out of
total eight which has not been included in the race of booking a berth for the London Olympics.
Eight teams are going to contest the EuroHockey Nations Tournament in German city of Monchengladbach in hunt for spots in the London Gala. Women’s trainer Danny Kerry was of the opinion that they would have to set an objective in the tournament in order
to lift the morale of players and reduce the pressure.
Commenting about players of the English side, the coach stated that they would go into the event with only one aim that is the victory. He underlined, “The girls normally have three targets going into a tournament but this time they are going with the objective
of winning. The other teams have the pressure of 2012; we don't which in a way is tough.”
He continued that one finds extra pressure when playing for the Olympic Qualification. “When you're playing for Olympic qualification you find that extra percentage and so we are playing teams that will scrap for everything - I want to see how the squad
copes with that,” he added.
The English Women under the captainship of Kate Walsh kick off their campaign against Belgium on Saturday, August 20 while facing Germany and Ireland on Sunday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 23.
As per the previous track record, the German Women will be tough contenders for English team. They have edge on playing at the home ground but they would put every effort in order to grab the Olympic berth.
Whether the English side finished the tourney first or second in their group fixtures, they are likely to contest the final fixture against Spanish Women or the Netherlands.
Kerrey while commenting on the status of the squads said that the Belgian Women come through the event with an organised way. German are the other favourites than the English side and will face each other in the semi-final, he added.
