English and Dutch squads announced for Rabo Four-Nations Tournament
18-member English and Dutch men’s national hockey squads have been announced for the upcoming Rabo Four-Nations tournament which is going to be commenced from June 28 till July 2 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Pakistan and Germany are also participating along with England and the hosts, Netherlands. Meanwhile, Amsterdam is also hosting Rabo FIH women’s Champions Trophy at the same time which started from today, June 25 and will conclude on July 3.
The Netherlands’ national team for the event is not including their most seasoned and legendary midfielder, Teun de Nooijer, who has more than 400 caps under his belt. His place is filled with the sensational youngster, Seve van a*s, who is also the
son of Paul van a*s, the coach of the Dutch team. The young striker played a major contribution in his team’s victory in the recently held Euro hockey League where he represented H.O.C. Gazellen-Combinatie (HGC).
However, the English squad is studded with a number of seasoned players who has worth of international experience including 34-year-old Mark Peam, 33-year-old former South African Ken Forbes and Ben Haws, who was the skipper of the English national
team in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Ken Forbes has been selected in the English national squad because of his brilliant recent performance against some of the top class teams of the world like Germany, Spain and Scotland in a recently concluded tournament in Largs, Scotland. The former
South African will be on his debut for England in the upcoming Four-Nations tournament.
“Things have moved on a bit since I was last involved. There’s a bigger squad of players and thanks to National Lottery funding we’re better supported. It’s easy to just keep doing the same thing in life but I like a challenge and I’m under no illusions
as to how hard it’s going to be to compete for my place,” Mark Peam, the seasoned member of the English squad stated on his comeback in the national team.
