I am an avid reader and have spent loads of money since I moved to europe on books-the kinds of books you do not read again(novels and what not). I am trying to find another english speaker in Spain or a program which will allow me to trade in all of my only read once books for other people's english books. I can not afford to keep buying all of these books.

  1. If you mention where you live it'd be easier. I live in Barcelona and there are a few book clubs to exchange books, there's also a second hand bookshop where you take your old books and exchange them as well. Why not try putting up a poster or and ad in a newspaper or shop near you where English speakers go. Another idea is go go to your local English school and ask them if they would like to exchange your books.

  2. It depends where you live - in Valencia we have 2 book clubs where you can bring your books and exchange them.  They meet once a month, have drinks, snacks and a gossip.

Have you thought about setting up your own book exchange.  If you want to email me I can put you in touch with one of the organisers, I'm sure she would be able to give you tips.

  3. Where do you live, I have the same problem. Do you have a market near you, as I go to our local markets and pick up a few books there. I also have a charity shop for animals that has second hand books. I live in the Albox area of Almeria and we have a market around us every day, but as my reading preference is thriller and horror, I do have difficulty in finding this type of book. Have you an English supermarket near, as they often have second hand books for sale cheaply. Good luck with your search.

  4. Yep telling us where you live will be handy. There are book exchanges in Javea, Costa Blanca, one really amazing one with zillions of books, also a lot the English supermarkets have book exchanges as well, some do it free as a service. Brings in customers. You will find book exchanges in most places where there is a reasonably sized English community.

  5. In Fuengirola area there are two or three bookshops that interchange books at a small fee,all so ther is a church meeting place that swop's books for all denominations,

  6. I agree, your location would help. The Cudeca (Cancer Charity) shops on the Costa Del Sol run a system where you can buy a book, read it & then exchange for a nominal charge each visit.  Many Papeleria (paper shops) do some sort of book exchange too.

  7. There is a very handy book exchange/2nd hand book shop just off the San Miguel in Torremolinos, and several in Fuengirola.........................
