Hi!

my name is Giulia, I'm 31 and I'm italian.

I'm planning to go to Australia for a period to study english and work (I hold a WHV).

I would like to start with an english course and I'm thinking about Queensland because of the weather in august (later maybe I will move south),

So, which city would you recommend me to spend 1 month studying english? Brisbane or Cairns?

I would like Brisbane because is a bigger city, but maybe Cairns is more easy as a first approach to AU for a foreigner (and there is the sea...)

  1. Both cities are great.  I live in Brisbane and I have been to Cairns regularly.  Flip a coin, let life decided.  They both have so much to offer and if you don't like one you the other is only a two day bus trip away.  :)

  2. Both cities are great - although the size differs greatly.

I live in Cairns and I would suggest here - better climate by far, Great Barrier Reef right on your doorstep and abundance of things to do and see.

    See http://www.studycairns.com.au for more info.

  3. I hear great things about Brisbane from a net friend there.

  4. Yeah, flip a coin. Brisbane is a bona fide city of nearly 2 million. Cairns, while it has city status and has grown considerably in recent years, is very much a tourist town...120 000 people.

Both are beautiful in winter...very mild (22-26 C) dry & clear.

I'd say that you'd have a better short stay in Cairns and a better long stay in Brisbane. If you're a city person, Brisbane is your best bet. If you're in Brisbane in August, come and see me in Motortown at the Metro. Yayyy!
