English cricketers shower praise on Ashes foe Lee – Cricket News Update
Former English cricketers paid rich tributes to Australia’s recently retired fast bowler Brett Lee, who called it a day on his 13-year-old long international career on Friday, July 13, 2012.
Micaheal Vaughan, the former England skipper, congratulated the New South Welshman on the completion of a remarkable international career, which saw him achieving many milestones, becoming worlds’ second fastest bowler being one of them.
“Congratulations to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
“I’d love to say it was great playing against him, but it was frightening most of the time,” he added further.
Vaughan was joined by former teammate and 2005 Ashes hero, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flintoff-c44360, who termed Lee’s retirement as a huge loss for the sport.
“The game has lost one of its few gentlemen,” tweeted former all-rounder Flintoff, who reportedly consoled the ace pacer after he narrowly failed to take the Kangaroos to an unexpected win at Edgbaston, in the 2005 Ashes series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PD-Collingwood-c2173, another former England batsman, said, “There are a lot of happy batsmen out there now. Well done on an amazing career, he wore the baggy green with pride.”
Brett Lee, the 35-year-old Australian right-arm fast bowler, who retired from Test cricket two years ago to extend his limited-overs career, finally decided to quit the shorter formats of international cricket as well, bringing to an end an international
career which spanned between 1999 and 2012. Lee will however, remain available for the Indian Premier League and Big Bash League.
The 13-year-long international cricketing career saw the speedster playing 76 Tests, 221 One Day Internationals and 25 T20 Internationals, taking 310, 380 and 28 wickets in each format apiece. With 380 ODI wickets, he leaves the international arena as Australia’s
joint leading wicket-taker with ex-teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Donald-McGrath-c60183.
Lee’s final international appearance had also come against the traditional rivals England, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 a week ago, where the ace pacer sustained a calf injury, which eventually proved to be career ending, as less than a week after picking up the injury Lee
decided to quit international cricket.
